Debt Recovery?

Hi all..

Not sure if I have the right forum or not, but god I need to unload this somewhere as it's weighing very heavily on me..

Right, so I stupidly agreed to order flights + hotels etc.. on my credit card for a friend on a summer long trip we had planned together.

At the time he was expecting a lump sum of money and assured me that he would pay me back no problem, we were also very good friends, so no problem there.

That was about 2 years ago.. long story short, I still haven't received a penny and he has since moved away.

We're talking about a grand here, and whilst 1k may not sound like a lot to most, when you've lost your job and you're trying to make ends meet it is a lot.

Also, because it was put on my CC I have been paying crippling interest rates on it, which I only managed to clear very recently..

This is really getting me down and I don't know how I can get it back, if at all..

We don't really talk anymore (because of this!) and as he has moved away I don't know his new address..

I do however know his home address at his parents.

Is there anything I could do to try and shame him into paying me what he owes, such as through the small claims court, send a solicitors letter etc..?

Btw, forgot to mention - of all the flights and hotels etc I booked and paid for - he never used them.. he totally bailed on me and I had to travel alone - lovely! Of course I couldn't get a refund on anything..

Any advise at all would be greatly appreciated as I'm sick with worry over this.
