Hello - I am looking for some advise from some of you business people.

Both my wife and I are very keen to move out of our jobs (bad time I know).

We are both experienced sales people - Me in Construction and Engineering sales also capital equipment and she in parmaceutical sales to Hospitals, GP's and Pharmacies - Drugs and Equipment.

I was thinking of setting us up as a part time sales force for companies.
I would imagine that companies would like to have a rep for a day or two per week to run a particular sales campaign, launch a product or introduce their new price list to customers.

We are fully independant with cars laptops and home office with dedicated line and broadband.

So that's the idea - what do you thin? - I would appreciate all comments and suggestions.

    Temp Reps

I guess every business is tough right now, I get what your planning. Have a look at some trade shows on the continent visit them and try secure an agency for something new, my only advise would be not to invest as from the get go your under pressure to perform. Figure out some some of commission basis untill you learn your particular trade and develop your customer base.

    Good luck

    Good luck

I think it's a pretty good idea. I met a guy a couple of years ago who was doing something similar in Scotland. I think it would be important to confine it to a small group of companies so you could be very familiar with their products.

Sorry to be negative - BUT - this has been done through the boom times and has turned out to be a cut-throat business.

My concern would be the cost of developing your product knowledge.

Generally high value sale == complex product.

Lower value product wouldn't really be worth your while ...

Ask the agencies if there is demand for this kind of work. They will know because they will have it covered if there is.

Great training if you could make it happen, exposure to different products and industries, new contacts.....

To me I think it's an excellent idea, but then I am a salesperson myself. I suppose the people you will be trying to convince the businesses. However I do believe that businesses will come round to that way of thinking in time. At them moment contract workers is the way to go in most areas of businesses. The days of paying a sales rep a car and a salary and a commission are surely dying. So I say go for it !;)
