    SpunOut.ie & the Community Knowledge Initiative at NUIG (National University of Ireland, Galway) are recruiting an ADVOCACY INTERN to stimulate awareness, engagement and participation in the community, and to increase social activism amongst young people in Ireland.
    This unique position involves developing the relationship and links between NUIG students and SpunOut.ie, assisting with preparations for a national youth action summit and researching and creating online resources relevant to citizenship, advocacy and activism.
    The ideal candidate will be passionate about social justice, an excellent communicator and motivated to make a difference using online media to engage and empower young people.
    They will receive invaluable work experience, accredited by both NUIG and SpunOut.ie, on-the-job learning, opportunities to encounter incredible, inspirational people and ideas, and the chance to make a difference on a truly national scale.

    The Community Knowledge Initiative (CKI) at NUIG
    The CKI was established in 2001 to help NUIG realise its civic mission by promoting greater civic engagement in the community. It does this through research into community engagement, the 'Alive' student volunteering programme, promoting 'in the community' service learning programme as part of academic courses and through knowledge sharing with other agencies throughout Ireland and abroad.

    Start date: ASAP
    Location: Galway (SpunOut.ie offices and NUIG, some home working possible). Some travel may be required.
    Duration: Flexible and open to discussion (minimum 8 weeks).
    Hours: Flexible and open to discussion (minimum 5 hours per week).
    Pay: Small stipend available.
    FOCUS


    The 3 main focuses of this internship are:
    (1) SpunOut.ie - NUIG liaison and development: Interviewing, canvassing, engaging students in order to promote active citizenship.
    (2) Youth Action Summit: Working with the SpunOut.ie team to coordinate a major nation-wide event aimed at kick-starting robust dialogue and action around youth advocacy/ activism/ and social engagement and responsibility.
    (3) Online resources research and development: Putting substantial energy into developing and sourcing resources for the Take Action area of SpunOut.ie.
    CRITERIA

    • You are I.T., web and multimedia savvy.
