I saw a 09 AirCoach today on the Merrion Road, not everyone seems to be hit by the cut backs in public transport.

Aircoach, the private bus operator? Long live our entrepreneurs!!!

I think they've been replacing almost all their buses in the last few months in favour of longer, tri-axel buses. Presumably some of their buses couldn't handle the demand and they upsized. I guess it beats waiting for the metro to the airport :(

Those new Aircoaches are monsters. They look a little big on some of the city centre streets.

Actually, the second 09 D reg I saw this year (last week) was a Dublin Bus on the 16 route.

Even in the worst of times, DB and BE got new buses - buses do need replacing (although maybe not as often as DB currently replace theirs...).

There is a big time-lag when it comes to the purchase of buses - the new double-decks that DB are currently putting into service with 09 regs were actually ordered in November 2007.

Further new buses they ordered in 2008 for delivery this summer have been cancelled.

    Yes, that's the experimental Hybrid.

Imagine if Aircoach operated a nitecoach service in Dublin (aka like the nitelink). As it's stands, Aircoach is the only public transport in Dublin to run 24hours a day. It's a great service.

DB wanted to operate a 24 hour service on the 746 route but the DoT ruled against it because it would compete with Aircoach.

I could imagine ... we'd all be standing on the side of the road waiting for a taxi.

Aircoach run a very specific service and do it very well. I am a big fan of the service but it has also taken them years to get to the level that they are now at and it is a premium service.. Running a late night suburban service is a different kettle of fish and is ideally suited to a company that runs a large day time service.

There is now Wifi on almost every 2008/2009 coach that is in service according to what a rep told me last night. Used it last night, pretty speedy, SSID is Aircoach_Wifi, no security, just use and go after accepting the terms and use.

Those interest might also note that these new Aircoaches are sporting a revised livery with a white and pink stripe (a hint towards the corporate livery) and FirstGroup logo. They haven't gone so far as to rename themselves "First Aircoach" yet though, like so many FirstGroup companies in the UK were renamed in the late 1990s/early 2000s.

Don't see a problem with it to be honest. Dublin Bus have started branding their new Airlink and wedding buses with the Dublin Bus logo when previously they had only a very small Dublin Bus indicator. Any company does the same, whether public or private, they always have colours that they associate themselves with.

The blue livery works very well over here, which is why they've brought in almost 20 new coaches, based on the blue and orange colour scheme, both inside and outside, with a little branding rather than redoing it completely. The more pink/purple Aircoach livery which has been used in the UK for the last 18 months would be used if they had plans to change it anytime soon.

They have actually exported the Aircoach brand to the UK, and whilst they are using a more First like Corporate livery there, they have no plans to bring that one here, the blue livery would not work so well in the UK, because people would not associate it with First, whilst in this country people would have a better association with the blue and orange. http://davidsbusandtrainpictures.fotopic.net/p56448157.html

Funny that because all the Bus Eireann buses i've been on in Limerick recently have been getting odler and older.

They have some new deckers in Cork, and in Broadstone, and I know have someone Scania Omnilinks and Enviros entered service this year.
