I am looking to buy one of these cars new.

Big Citroen dealer in Ireland has ad in the times saying special deals, so I phone up and get quoted over 28,000 euro. I laugh and explain UK price.

Brand new from the UK €20,980 VRT and VAT including ferry and flights.

Then says he can do better deal for cash, a couple of thou less.

He asks me to "come in for a chat" and I ask how close to 21k he will go otherwise I am off to the UK, then he just gets p1ssed off and tells me I am wasting his time.

He says Citroen France set the prices, so I asked why they don't they buy from UK then, ... silence.

No wonder you are all going out of business.

Its unfair to compare prices in two different states. Why dont you phone Citroen in Nigeria and go back to the dealer in the UK and ask him to match that price.

And i would agree. You were wasting his time.

Ireland V Northern Ireland very unfair to compare.:D

Funnily enough Citroen Nigeria said the same thing, .... I was wasting their time

Its silly expecting a dealer to match that price. Apart from better discounts being available from the UK, the dealer has to source their new cars from the distributor. I'd be royally pi:mad:ed off if you called too

Afaik, Citroen in the UK are offering this model VAT free at the minute. Thats why there is such a big difference.

Could you provide a link to the UK price and a calculation of VAT, VRT and costs that would total up to €20,980?

It would be interesting to see and it could take the confusion away from some people here

Citroen have discounted the car and just say Zero VAT but there is still VAT to be deducted in UK of 15%

calculations are then similar to the skoda post

Parkers have a list price of £17,561 for a 1.6HDi 16V SX 5d EGS with a deal price of £13,214.

Working from the deal price, £13,214 less 15% vat is £11,232. Convert to € at £0.86 [current base rate ~£0.885 so expect to buy GB£ @ £0.86] gives €13,060. Add Irish VAT @ 21.5% brings it to €15,868 plus VRT of €5675 [revenue website] gives €21,543. Add in your flight, hotel (if necessary), ferry, fuel, food, etc... and a shade over €22k looks entirely possible. I'm not sure what terms and conditions apply to that deal price but if you can get it then it's a great deal.

However, if you're buying at Parkers quoted list price of £17,561 then your VAT and VRT inclusive price here becomes €26,763 + expenses, which I'd have to imagine could easily be matched and probably beaten by an Irish dealer.

Now the other thing that must be factored into the equation are extras and differences in spec that the revenue will classify as extras when calculating VRT.

Actually it is £11490 ex vat, €12,964 (currency.ie), €15,751 (2787 Vat incl), then 16% VRT of Irish price which is aprox €4k, so just under 20k all up with flight and ferry.

So thats nearly €7,000 tax paid and the car is still 8k cheaper than here.

    Its a huge price difference.

But with the VAT free deal you need to pay the full price at the time and then get a cheque back from Citroen afterwards...
