I just got these yesterday and they feel quite comfortable from the off in my training shoe just walking around in them last night.

Is it ok to head out on a run with them tonight? Should i keep it short or maybe just a few miles on the threadmill to see how i go?

Basically, i'm just wondering has anyone made a balls of their feet by doing to much too soon .... or how well sould i break them in before heading out on a decent run.

    all help appreciated

what did the physio (or whoever prescribed/made them) say?

as hunneymonster said, you should check with your physio or whoever prescribed them in the first place.
I was told to wear them for only half a day each day for a week and then only start some light running in them.

As it turned out, mine kept giving me problems in the achilles and calf muscles so I don't wear them for running now, I wear them on a day-to-day basis.

I was sort of ripped off with mine, yer man was a right cowboy:mad:

she was pretty vague... pointed at the blurb that came with them that said wear gradually for 2-6weeks but that she wears them and felt completely normal after a few days.

just wondering what people on here have experienced with them... i suppose everyones gonna be a bit different.

I run in mine, and gradually introduced them over a few short runs (on the instructions of the physio).

When I got mine I was instructed to wear them for 2 hours the first day, 4 the next, 6 the next, and so on until I was wearing them all day. During this time I trained as normal without wearing the orthotics. After a week or two I wore them for warm up and warm down jogs and then for my shortest easy runs, building up like that until I was eventually wearing them all the time.

All this was under the instruction of the physio who prescribed them, who has worked with Irish athletics teams. Ideally you would follow the advice of your own physio or someone else knowledgable that you can trust. But if not, maybe doing what I did would be good idea.

Very suprised Physio did not give you the advice that has been posted. If they are your first pair it is imperative to break then in slowly.
Wear them in the houseand gradually wera them in shoes. Wearing them as cool down is another excellant suggestion. Be wary about running in them until you are used to them. Countless runners have done this and have got injured.

She did say to break them in gradually but didn't really give any specific instruction.

anyway, i wore them for the afternoon at work yesterday (desk job) and around the house yesterday evening.

decided i'd go for a walk in them this evening and after about half a mile they felt fine and couldn't resist breaking into a slow jog, just to see how it went.

jogged about two miles and they felt fine on the feet but the pain in my knee (the reason i was recommended them in the first place) started to come back so i walked home pissed off.

the correction they're supposed to give obviously isn't instant so i'll wear them for half a day for the next few days and maybe try another short run on saturday.

connemarathon is looking more and more like a non runner , no pun intended

I just got a pair two weeks back - the advice from the orthotics doc was to wear them for an hour a day for the first three days, then up the wear by an hour each day until wearing them all of the time (except sleeping of course!). Not wearing them while running - I still use my Brooks running shoes with built in overpronation. Experiencing mild pains around the achilles and shins but have adopted a good stretching regime since the last major injury so no real worries. My orthotics guy tells me that the ones I have are not built for running long distance so I'll eventually have to shell out for another set for that.
