We recently moved address and before we moved I rang UPC. They told me that we'd have digital TV in the new address but no internet and that they'd send an engineer today to hook it up. Guy comes today and says he's here to change the box and not setup the net as there is no broadband coverage in the area.

I'm a little confused as digital TV was working and the missus says he changed the box for a new one as large as the dvd player. Is this not a DVR box? Am I paying extra for that, something I didn't ask for. Now I realise they want to change boxes due to encryption etc but am I paying extra for it?

    Non DVR box...No extra charge.

    DVR box...Extra charge.

DVR isn't as wide as standard stb but bigger in height. You got the first one above. It is the size of a DVD player.

Don't really know why they changed the box, but it may not be a DVR box. UPC have a Pace D4A box that is roughly the same size as the DVR, and this is probably what you've been given.
Easiest way to find out is to get your missus to press the Menu button on the remote. When the Menu comes up, if there is an option there for Digital Video Recorder, then it's a DVR and you're probably being charged €5 extra (although they do have some promotions for free DVRs at the moment, so maybe you've got it, suggest ringing UPC to check).
If there's no menu option for Digital Video Recorder, it's just the standard Pace D4A box, and you won't be paying extra for that.
