    tether!!!!!!!!!!!

Have a Dell Laptop (first and last). Running XP Home. Have antivirus on it and its updated. No virus on the laptop.
When on the internet the thing just freezes up. You have to physically turn it off and back on, even ctrl alt delete doesn’t work.
Its not the eircom line, they have tested it, and I have also tried using the net with Vodafone mobile BB.

I cant think of anything else to do. PLEASE HELP before I throw this laptop out the window.
    Any suggestions.

are you sure its only while you are online, try watching a dvd on it

if the pc freezes and the mouse stops moving its nearly always the graphics card or the chipset overheating, nearly impossibal to fix

if your apps lock up but the mouse is still working then it might be the hard driving hitting bad sectors, or a ram problem, (you will hear a clicking noise if its the hard drive)

dell are great, i have re-sold about 30 dell laptops in the last year, sorry to hear that you were unlucky

no i have not tried to look at a dvd on it, but i have been working away on other applications and not had a problem. i will scream if its not a fixable problem, its not even two years old yet :-(
    thanks for the info.

What browser are you using? If it's IE, then consider trying another one. I'd recommend Opera, particularly if you have 1GB or less RAM.

If it is IE you're using, have you tried the usual things, such as deleting browser history/cookies/temp internet files? Are you running any additionally installed tool/help(!) bars on your browser? Is your browser up-to-date with the latest patches/etc?

There are a ton of things to try, easily found if you search on goo... hang on a minute... how are you able to post on here if the internet freezes on you?

Just because your anti virus hasn't found anything doesn't mean there's nothing wrong. But as others have said, download something like mozilla firefox, opera, chrome etc and try browsing online with that.
