New TV, Digital Question

    We have a new tv - http://www.amazon.co.uk/Sony-KDL-40X3000-Widescreen-Bravia-Freeview/dp/B000VZA7AM

The spec says it has "Integrated Digital Tuner / FREEVIEW". All good so far. Messing around with the setup last night I accidentally auto-tuned on the digital antennae and ended up with perfect reception on RTE1/2/TV3 and some digital radio channels. We don't have NTL/SKY service- where are these coming from?

Are they just some test signals that RTE using that might be shortlived?

    thanks.

You need to subscribe to get SKY/NTL, either cable for UPC (NTL) or a Sat dish for Sky..

You appear to have bought a MPEG4 compatable TV - well done!

You are picking up the test transmission for the new DTT service

    No TG4?

Probably typical of how brainwashed people are by advertising.

You do not need to pay NTL or SKY or Chorus to get the Irish TV stations. They are free.

Likewise with ITV BBCs and Ch4. They are freely available on freesat.

    Tell all your friends nilim.

But not to buy Freeview products. It is just coincidental that the product you bought although branded as "Freeview" actually has an MPEG4 chip in it that allows it decode Irish DTT. Nearly all that KDL series does.
