Rain in the West

Hi all - I had a girl bite the head off me a while back because I suggested it rains a lot more in Galway then in Dublin, and she started going on about how Dublin people are so ignorant of the rest of the country and that it's a small island and the weather's the same everywhere etc...
Didn't bother arguing, used to the animosity shown towards Dublin people when culchies meet us abroad, but I'm sure I read that statistically they get substantially more rain in places like Galway, Sligo, Mayo etc. Actually she was from Mayo. Was I right or wrong?

Of course it rains more in the west http://www.met.ie/climate/rainfall.asp. The area around Dublin is the driest in the country. I remember reading years ago in the Guinness Book of Records that somewhere in Co. Galway had more rain days than anywhere else in Ireland or Britain!

Have a look at the met eireann monthly data report from the various stations - there is no station for Galway, Claremorris looks like the nearest to back up your theory!
