Tax is 586 I think or around that (it may have gone up a little) - this is for anything registered prior to 2008 when they rejigged the tax.

Nowadays a newly regged one will be 2K/Year (Ouch!)

Insurance can be anywhere from €500> depending on who's driving and whatnot. You may be able to get comp insurance for €1K - try RSA. But i reckon few companies would insure a sports car for 23 year olds.
Give it a go though - they're great cars (if you don't mind the quirkiness) :D

The engine noise got me- it's pure unique.

I found i was making excuses to get out in her :D

Tbh (if you can afford one, as the petrol is expensive, and you have the time and patience for one) then the Rx-8 beats the passat hands down.

But if you want relibility and a 'good' car, i'd go with the passat (they generally don't caus problems as far as i know)

Bought an 05 Passat 2 litre tdi sport after looking at an RX8, the vrt went up after July on bring ing it in as well so that put me off buying it because I never bought one in time, the MPG would kill me and also the cars are high maintenence with the rotary engine.

The passat is the dogs, the RX8 was a great drive too but in the economic times I went for the Diesel.:D

Could you find to more different cars.
One is a sporty couple, with a great soundtrack but does indeed require enthusiast level loving, but an eye catcher none the less. The other is a Passat, relatively reliable, relatively decent looking, relatively comfortable, decent drive.. see the trend there? ;)

Buy what the heart wants, you could be hit by a bus tomorrow*!

*Given the weather, the odds of that are indeed quite high tomorrow

Only on boards would you find someone looking to choose between an RX8 and a Passat 1.9 TDi.
The only question you need to ask yourself is can you afford the fact that you'll need to fill it with petrol twice as often? If the answer is yes then get the RX8. They're designed to consume oil to lubricate the rotor tips, so you need to check it every fill or every 2nd fill as recommended. The 2 litre in the Passat isn't designed to use oil, but it does, so you also need to check that every 2nd fill too!
They don't need that much TLC, just keep an eye on the oil, try to avoid short trips, and don't be afraid of the right foot - it's good for it!

    Use statistical code 40687395.
    OPEN MARKET SELLING PRICE: €23895
    RATE OF TAX: 36%
    VEHICLE REGISTRATION TAX:
    (payable on enquiry date) €8602

Also, it's only the 192bhp version. IMO, the only one to go for is the 231bhp version.

    +1

Unless the car was first registered after 01/07/2008, then the motor tax is €2,000 :D
