just wanted to get some views of some golfers as to what they think of online time sheets in their respective clubs.Online time sheets were recently introduced to my club and have created a whole new set of issues,it seems some people actually prefer to put a ball in a chute and wait for up to an hour to play a game rather than booking a slot a week or so before hand although it is like fastest finger to book a slot in advance and some of our senior members would not be up to speed on technology:confused:

My club has been using the online timesheets for over a year now and I think it's great. I do understand however that some members find it difficult if they are not familiar with using the internet. In my club members have the option to ring the caddymaster and he will put their name down for them so that they don't have to go online.

I can't really think of any disadvantages to having online timesheets once the facility to book without having to go online is available.

    PRO
    1. Book from anywhere with internet access
    2. No need to drive to club to book (environmentally friendly)
    3. Easier for the club to manage
    4. No searching for a pen to write on paper sheets

    CON
    1. Not everyone familiar with the technology
    2. Site may be blocked/unavailable during work hours
    3. Miss the opening of the sheet by 1 minute & you won't get on
    4. Too easy to book/cancel means people can hog the sheet & then cancel without repercussion (unless you have to pay when you book).

Takes a bit of time for people to get used to and accept but generally seem to be viewed in a positive light.

I am all in favour of time sheets but there are still the vocal few try and get there own way.At our general meeting alot of the anti time sheet brigade turned up with the intention of getting a vote on the issue but thank god the chairman did not allow a vote to go a head and some walked out of the meeting once they heard that there would be no vote and stated that they have no other interest in what is happening in our club.As a result of this issue some people on the committees did not get re elected even though they put in a massive effort into all the rest of the business of the club.
Admittleythe implementation of the time sheets was flawed ie-
    winter hours-reduction in light
    terminals not ready
sheet only on line late in the evening
some people hogging lines and then cancelling at the last minute
    But on the upside
time sheet is always full-more people playing
opportunity to play with different people
the pro can sell slots to green fee'rs-hopefully reducing the sub
turn up and can give your partner a time that you should finish at

I find them great and I'm pretty sure the general concensus in our club is very much in favour of the online system. We do have a younger membership than most though.

We have full timesheets, especially this time of year, but for up to an hour after the sheet opens you will have a fair selection of times. It usually takes a day or so to fill completely.

The early patrol are always quickets on the draw but that's only 8-12 guys who play at first light. Everyone else is more than happy to let them at it.

I like to play with a variety of people so it's good for that, seeing who's down and adding yourself into a line.

Agree with Par72 in that once you can call up and get on the sheet also, it's no real problem.

Spare a thought for members of Arklow who don't live in the immediate area. I've heard that you can't book the weekend comps by phone or computer... you have to drive down and manually write in your name!

the general consenus is that they are a great idea but trying to keep everyone happy is not an easy task just ask Biffo. An idea that one of my mates said was that if you book a line that you should pay 50% of the competition fee up front ,this would stop people just hogging lines and disappearing of the sheet on the day that they were to play

If you ask me, you're talking about a different issue there. Cancelling late is cancelling late, regardless of what medium you use to do so. Sure online booking helps guys who want to practice this pesky and ignorant behaviour (obv not talking about those cancelling with good reason) but in our club, we have rules for when it's ok to cancel and when it's not - and penalities in place for people who break the rules.

It's treated as an independant issue to online booking. Which it is IMV.
