...knowing you have to wait till Sep before the NFL season starts (in earnest) again.
Won't bother watching the Pro-Bowl or the pre season games...:(

im solely waiting for Free Agency and the Draft :D

Get some DVDs by NFL films, that'll partially fill the hole. The short nature of the NFL is both brilliant and irratating. Irratating naturally because its short for us but brilliant because it insures that the standards remain high in the most attritional sport i know of.

You're right, this is a really depressing time of the year.

I have the League of Ireland season starting in March to keep me occupied, and Sligo Rovers playing in Europe. But Football is still my first love and i'll be counting down the days to the draft, training camp and DA BEARS first game!

    But still depressing...

The draft and free agency will keep me satisfied...but its no subsitute and after that its a long wait till September.

At least in Boston the Bruins and Celtics are kicking ass at d mo, but its still 7 months till Tom Brady is slinging another TD pass to Moss :(

    Follow another sport?

My first love is Athletics, which complements the football season perfectly. :)

Sure half the guys who'll be drafted in April will be running 'track' for their colleges in the spring and summer.

Ugh this is depressing alright. It's so long until the season starts. FAs and Draft are no consolation at all.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 261 ✭✭TheHeadhunter

I'm looking forward to free agency and the draft but first Al Davis has to get it together and find us a head coach!!

    Didn't they go with Cable?

Or didn't they resign themselves to staying with Cable because nobody applied?

lol, I thought Cable got it too.

But he's still listed as interim coach. I don't see who else would want to coach there the way the franchise is right now.

Horibble time of year to be an NFL fan. The Pro-Bowl is always a nice way to end the season though. Always enjoyable.

At least we have the IAFL!

Yep I'll be down training on Sunday, the evenings do pass a bit slower for the next six months though!

Cable hasnt been offically anounced yet but it's pretty much in the bag for him, it's a shocking coaching staff we'll have next year. Ugh.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 261 ✭✭TheHeadhunter

He has been announced and was unveiled today. Pretty sweet press conference. I think he has the right attitude about him for the job and King Al seems to like him so hopefull he can stir us along the long road back to recovery.

"To the fans of Raider Nation, listen to me. It is time we came back to you with a team that you can be proud of every Sunday, that everyone walks into that stadium has a level of energy and excitement like no other. You have been great fans in the past, and it is time for us to give you something back, that is a great football team." - Raiders Head Coach Tom Cable

Yeah the Celtics will help as will the Sox and the Mets but its not the same!! I cant wait for the draft but even that seems ages away! Have to start going through mock drafts and all that to kill the time!

After the Yankees, I would say the most hated Baseball team in Boston. Strawberry etc.

yeah I do. I grew up a red sox fan because of my family but i was working in New York during the summer, so i followed the mets. I was hardly going to root for the yankees now was I?!

The mets and sox aren't rivals according to my family who live there. Sure the 1986 world series was painful for boston but they don't hate the mets for it. They barely ever play each other. But i supposes i depends on who ya talk to.

Try being a Seattle sports fan. Sonics are gone, Seahawks collapsed and last year the Mariners became the 1st ever members of the 100/100 club.(Lost 100 games on a $100million dollar payroll)

Looking forward to the Sounders getting going i suppose!

So with the pro bowl over now. That's it until early September. Sky to be cancelled this week.

My loyalties for different sports are varied across the states. I follow the Red Sox, like the Chicago Bulls, and am a Colts fan. Couldn't give a hoot about Hockey TBH.

I watch the Sox when I can, and was gutted after this years playoffs, but any real passion I have for American Sports lies solely with Football. Didn't even watch the pro-bowl last night, so yeah my sports interest for the next 4 months lie on this side of the Atlantic (another League/CL double for united and a grand slam for Ireland/HC for Leinster :D). Come May, I'll be REEEAAALLY depressed though.

Actually enjoying playing the Superstar mode of the game - playing as a mid linebacker... good fun chasing quaterbacks although the amount of times I've been flagged for roughing the passer is unreal...:o

NCAA 09 is so much better. Have been playing NCAA for the last 5 years. Far better than Madden. If you have a PS3 buy it.

Can you buy it in stores here?

I have been getting it online for the last few years!

I'm actually excited about the off season. The Chiefs have hired a new young coach to go with the youngest team in the NFL. We have the third pick in the draw and a lot of money to play around with in the salary cap.

All our loses in 2008 were by less than 10 points so not too far off the benchmark of other teams, and if we can hold on to Gonzalez and LJ we'll be flying.

    As I said, exciting times.

You should get rid of LJ imo, a bad influence in the locker room.

I agree though the Chiefs are on the way up.

Unfortunately for me the Bills are once again in the 'mediocre' bracket, 3 7-9 seasons. They need something to get them over the hump into the playoff picture.

Why does nobody give a **** about hockey?

Its really top class stuff....Fast, physical and immensely skilful and the Bruins are having a cracking season:D

I watch it all the time on NASN and it will definitely help ease the loss of NFL.

As much as I'd like to I just cannot get into baseball at all. There's just too much to it and its too subtle to appreciate if you dont understand the strategy/tactics.

I never watched a game of hockey till i moved over to Boston a couple of months ago. I've gone to 2 Bruins games so far...and had a great laugh.

Great atomsphere especially if you're having a few beers. First game I went to was against the Maple Leafs, great game and Wheeler scored a hat trick so all the crowd started throwing their hats onto the rink.

Second game was against St Louis, they were 0-2 down going into the 3rd period. Bruins made it 1-2 with 10 mins to go, then 2-2 with 5 mins left, then 3-2 4mins left (crowd going mental), 4-2 with 3mins left, but St Louis scored with a 1 1/2 min to go then with 6 secs left in the game, St Louis had the puck in their own half and they managed to get it up the field and to score with 0.6 left on the clock to take it to overtime...St Louis went on to win in penalties. Atomsphere went from estatic at 4-2 to silence at 4-4
