Some UK car prices to increase

In an interview, a Ford spokesman said the company had raised prices by an average of 4.7pc from Monday, including a 5.2pc increase on the UK's best-selling car, the Ford Focus. Meanwhile, Vauxhall said it will unveil a range of price increases later this month.

The decline of the pound against the euro has severely damaged the sales margins for the two companies because the vast majority of the cars they sell in the UK are manufactured in mainland Europe. The plan will trigger fears that other European-based manufacturers, such as the car makers Volkswagen, PSA Peugeot Citroen and Fiat, may also now increase prices.

Big surprise. Also the cascade effect of increased costs from other areas related to buying/selling cars and cost of living will push prices up even further. This is really only short term gain for England, going to hit them in the long run.
