Student travelcard vs ISIC card

    Hi,

I returned to college as a mature student last Oct and got a student travelcard which allows for discounted travel on iarnrod eireann, dublin bus and luas. I didn't get an ISIC card (which i used to have years ago when I first went to college) because I thought it was part of the student travelcard but from looking at usit/isic page this doesn't look to be the case. I'm taking a year out from Sept (going to Canada!) and want to have an ISIC with me for discounts etc but can any one clear up what the differences between the two cards are. Also, if I do have to get an ISIC card seperately will they issue it from the date I apply or will it be in line with the academic year (eg. the travelcard is valid until 31 Dec 2009).

Thanks for any help with this.

The student travel card that you have is only for Ireland. Isic card is international. I had the isic in america and got plenty of discounts with hotels, shopping and even on food! You can only get it though i think if you book like a j1/student travel package??

I'll knock this over to the College forum, where some of the folks might have more relevant information on the different cards.
