Best Device

Well my iRiver H10 has offically packed it in. Lasted about 4/5 years I think. So it is time to purchase a new player. However I haven't a clue as to what is out there apart from the various versions of the iPod. Even on that point I don't know what is the best version.

Anyway what I would really like are some suggestions. I have gone through the various sticky threads and there isn't anything there yet, though I noticed it was suggested to generate a list of devices with the pros and cons etc.

I am mainly going to be using my new device for playing music. However I do like the idea of getting something that would support other media including movies and photos etc.

Anyway all suggestions are welcomed. Your personal experience with the device, if you have it, is also welcome. I don't mind doing the grunt work of comparing the different devices through various sites once I get a list to go through.

IMO, the current cream of the crop is either the ipod Touch or Cowon S9, each one is stronger than the other in certain areas.

Other notable players are the Sony A828 (or any current sony really), Sandisk sansa Fuze, and Samsung P2.

Ones to keep an eye out for are the upcoming Samsung P3 and the Sony X1000 series, the later seems like it is going to be very cool.

Current brands to avoid are Creative, iriver and Archos, their latest stuff leave a lot to be desired for (although Archos are not too bad, just a tad expensive for what they offer Vs inconsistent / buggy firmware).

It'd help if there were specific features you absolutely needed, you know like deal breakers, are there any?

Ive a Sony 829 and it's a great player. Has very good sound, great battery life, and came with quality earphones straight out of the box.

I couldn't call it the best, as i havent used them all (:pac:), but its definitely a very good (music) player. Not much good for video, due to the size of the screen and limited codec support, but its a small player, not really the kind you buy for watching videos on.

do cowon players support usb mass storage for loading songs or do they make you use some program for it?

Drag and drop? Yes, you can do that on the Cowon. Why every player doesn't let you do this I'll never know.
