125 years of GAA, on Setanta?

Should the GAA have sold their rights to Setanta for their 125 year celebrations and the Dublin Tyrone match?

Should the Free-to-air channel been given the rights? Or did you even notice that a pay TV service had exclusive rights to this event?

TG4 only show live Sunday games. Cannot see why this would change for the game last Saturday

I thought it was a diagrace that our so called national broadcaster RTE could not show the 1st game in our national league and it been the 125th anniversary of our national games.
Shame on Rte now there looking for a licence hike.

It isn't RTE fault if the GAA went with a pay TV provider. I think that the GAA should have provided to either TG4 or RTE rather then Setanta. Did Setanta unencrypt it on satellite?

I only ask as it seemed like such an important occasions. Do TG4 still have the rights to Sunday games?

Meh they probably helped pay for it anyway.

Well going by RTE's last contribution to the 125th anniversary celebrations I'm nearly glad Setanta had it tbh;)

It is RTE's fault...they clearly didn't offer enough money. PAt Kenny might have needed more make-up, or had to pay for re-issue of Toy Show tickets.

Yeah, TG4 still do Sunday matches, cant remember who they showed live at the weekend, think it was Kerry, then deferred coverage of Cork-Meath. But don't quote me on the teams involved.

Setanta is part of NTL's basic package. Did Setanta unencrypt the game on Sky's digital service? Not sure if it's even possible but it might be.

Setanta get the Saturday night games and 4 Sunday games. All Championship games, Club Championship games and most league games are on terrestrial TV. But as usual you'll have people moaning at the GAA for the tiny amount of games that aren't.

Sorry to dissappoint you but that would mean RTÉ using their licence fee in an anti-competitive manner.

There are 2 other national stations in Ireland both of whom could have shown the match and the night. TV3 even own 22% of setanta.

TG4 showed the Donegal v Queens in the McKenna Cup live on SATURDAY the 24th of Jan 2009.

The McKenna Cup is part of the National League? Do please read the thread before replying.

Post 1 and Post 2 (yours) mention nothing about league specific.

Your post can be interpreted many ways. TG4 have in the past also shown live league games on a Saturday.
Do please try and be more specific.

Considering the thread is about Setanta showing a league match I do not see how you got it wrong.

You're ignoring the fact that every single televised GAA game, except for a handful of league games, is being broadcast on terrerstrial TV this year. And afaik until 2011.

What are you on about? I ignored nothing. It wasn't me who started this thread.
