I graduated from this course a few years ago and did a masters in a very similar field to the course. Post up any questions you have and i'll try and answer them as best I can. But I will say that in general it is a very good course and is well received out in the "real world"

Ermm, can I ask what stuff / info you've been reading on it?

One thing to clarify is this: The first year is common among the 7 Engineering Programs in DCU. There is no difference between them. They were supposed to put them all into one CAO choice by now but it seems they still haven't... Anyway, no matter which course you choose, you do the common first year and you have the choice to choose any engineering course at the end of first year.

I'm in second year of Electronic Engineering now, so I did the common first year and I still do many of the subjects that the digital media Engineers do.

So far I've found the course pretty good, and anyone I know in Digital Media enjoys it. If you got any specific questions just let me know.

I am currently working in Spain for an Irish software firm (Arantech) who work in the telecommunications area. I only recently started (6 months) and I work in the operations department. Basically we have contracts with Telefonica and Vodafone as well as other firms and we install our software and provide support for the software. I help with the installation and maintanence of our software and also monitor the system to ensure problems are kept within an acceptable level.

I don't spend my day writing code (which is great), well not for the product anyway, but my work does involve the use of the product we provide aswell as the use of shell scripting for the maintanence of the hardware required for our product, some SQL and thats the main stuff that I use in my day to day tasks. If you have an interest in entering the telecomms industry then Digital Media engineering is ideal as it tends towards this area in alot of the subjects covered throughout the course although electronic engineering is also relevant it is not as tuned to this area (imo).

I hope that all makes sense and helps you out. As a side, the facilities for engineering in DCU is second to none.

I might be misunderstanding you here, but just in case...

If you are offered your first choice, you cannot take your second choice!!!

You have til the end of june to change your choices and make up your mind, but remember to choose in order of preference!
