Hey folks, did a search but came up with nothing

Myself and my other half want to get Sky+ for our new house. Its a 3 bedroom semi d with MHRV with an air tightness spec of 3 ach.

Now I don't exactly want to let the guy installing it drill a hole straight through the wall for the cabling so are there any alternatives which are less damaging to the air tightness of my house.

I really cant think of a compromise around this, the house has TV points in several rooms but I am not sure what they are connected to :o

    Any help greatly appreciated

    Veg

Cant you just use some kind of epoxy seal around and in the hole once the cabling is done to recover the air tightness?

I agree, drill the hole, seal internally & externally with mastic - make as air tight as possible.

Look at Siga, Moy or ProClima website for details of taping and sealing around cables. Air tighness is great but it doesn't mean the structure is Air proof!

Yes this is a possibility but if I could get away with a neater solution before I start drilling through the wall (cable into attic, house is wired for TV points etc etc) that'd be great

Wondering what others might have done or is there a standard practice for this

    Hi Vegeta

we recently came across the same issue at home. my father refused to have a cable running down the side of the house, he's dead right too. we got an installer to run it through the attic and down through the existing tv socket.

in order to get this level of service you must order your sky box and viewing a card through a local contractor - NOT directly from sky! the actual sky installers will not go up on a roof so basically they lump the dish on the side of the house, drill a hole and feed the cable through the wall (extremely unsightly on your new home - in my opinion). you do however have to pay the installation guy an additional labour charge which is fair enough as it takes a far bit longer to get it done properly.

so dig out your yellow pages and chat to one or two guys, see what they can do.

    cheers

Good stuff, this is exactly the type of thing I was after, there's a local lad who does it so I might give him a shout and see what he suggest

    Thanks

Do yourself a favour & drill a hole large enough to fit a 1" wavin pipe in & then put 4x good quality cables thru it into your attic space. The pipe also makes filling the gaps alot easier.

That way you can get a 4x LNB for the dish & have freeview in 3 extra points as well as the Skybox.

Sadly when you get a Sky installer your having a spin of the lottery wheel & while your number may come up, there's also a could chance that you'll get a cowboy. Watch them like a hawk !!!

The folks on the Satellite forum can offer lots of good advice.

Edit: I should really say that installing a Sat Dish for Sky is about as challenging as adjusting your car wing-mirror. So think about DIY'ing !
