What are the consequences of failure...

Just been reading this on breakingnews.ie:

    http://www.breakingnews.ie/ireland/mhsnqlmhcwid/

Harney says she hopes the current negotiations can “save the country.”

There had been a lot of discussion here about what should be done but what I am interested in is what happens if these steps fail? What are the consequences for the country? Has anyone got a general overview of the possible effects of failure?
Or have I missed a thread dealing with this already?

The state will run out of cash to pay the wages of teachers, guards etc by mid-summer, defaults on its debt, IMF called in, thrown out of the euro area (or at least put into a 2nd division euro area), mass strikes, civil unrest, general election, hung Dáils etc etc...

Then again all that could happen anyway.

...and if the IMF is called in, there'll be even higher unemployment resulting from mass dismissals from large public bodies. IMO, what has happened to this country is that the speculators robbed much of our wealth. This was done largely through the property market and lending sector. To add insult to injury, I hear that when the two main banks are re-capitalised, large debts relating to land speculation will be partly written off - what about the high mortgages that ordinary people have to pay!!!:mad::mad: What about the top brass (politicians, bankers etc) who got this country into this mess - like they still in their cushy positions, aside from the handful who got a golden handshake. I for one, would let that shower of spongers rot!!! I would take everything off them including their houses!!!:mad::mad:

As things stand IMO, the government (and opposition for that matter) would want to be very careful, because I guess the ordinary people are getting very fed up!!! If things get much worse, this country may become politically unstable. The politicians are not above the ordinary people, and I guess they'll soon need to cop this on before this country becomes ungovernable.

By the way, I'll be voting NO to Lisbon 2 - there's no way I would want to give the politicians more power - these people seriously think they are above us - let's take them and their political dynasties down (government and opposition TDs). Let's call a national strike and close this country down - I guess we need to start fresh and scrap FF, FG, Labour, and the Greens - we need fresh parties that represent people, not power!

Get those tired good for nothing wasters out (all 166 of them)!!!

You know this thread was about the consequences of excessive national debt, right?

    This forum needs a hammer.
