I am thinking of investing in this foresty company through solas financial.
    Minimum investment is 15k.
-Lump sum is locked in for 18 year term, no access to funds at any time until investment has matured.

    -Annual returns forecast at 10%.

    - the promoter and investment manager is green belt ltm in Virginia Co. Cavan.

I am just a bit aprehensive about the overall term of the investment, alot can change in 18 yrs!!!!

Has anyone invested in this or had any experieces or information they would like to share with me on this topic? Thank you

This part I really don't like.

    -Annual returns forecast at 10%.

What are these forecasts based on ? 10% p/a for 18 years is amazing - I would love to see them do this for you but it's gotta be really tough, No?

Pretty well respected by all accounts. How many projects have they done in Central America before ? What is the governmental situation in Panama ? You have to try and imagine what it might be like there in 2027 too !

I would never lock my money up for 18 years with anyone except Warren Buffett.

Has anyone invested in this or had any experieces or information they would like to share with me on this topic? Thank you

There are lots of things here that I would be apprehensive about to be honest. Obviousy the big three are (1) Panama (2) 18 year lock up (3) 10% 'forecasted' returns p/a.

I wish you luck though - let us know if you get more info. about it please

I know its hard to be ethical in this game, but supporting a venture than basically exploits the fast dwindling rainforest would not be ok for me. Teak takes over 100 years to mature so isn't a very renenwable resource.

    Also 18 year lock-in?...Stay clear.

I'd be nervous about locking my money away for such a period too. Also that the political situation/legal situation in Panama could change over that time etc..

There's a big difference between forecasted returns and guaranteed returns.

If it were me, having that much to invest, I would prefer to look at a mix of stocks and secured investments (like savings bonds or the like) - the mix determined by the amount of risk you want to take with the money.

Disclosure: I work for Solas Financial:

There is a detailed memorandum available on the Teak Investment which describes the investment risks and financial assumptions in detail. Any queries Solas or the Green Belt folks are very happy to answer. This is not a retail product and has a €50k min. Funds are locked in for at least 18 Years and there is no early exit posibilities. Some or the risks pointed out by some posters are very valid, Panama, demand for teak in 18 years time etc.
