I would like to hook up a new laptop to my HD-Ready TV (1080i)

I would like my new laptop to have a HDMI output (Mandatory) so I can play HD TV shows out to the TV

Having a HD screen and Blue-ray drive on the laptop would be VERY nice too.

    Has anyone done this?

Has anyone got any suggestions/recommendation for a laptop that would have these features?

    Ta muchness.

I was looking for a laptop with a HDMI port too, finally settled on one with a DisplayPort. Apparently a simple adapter can turn one into the other.

budget? preferred screen size? any other functionality needed from it?

Dell have a pretty good selection of blu-ray laptops. Sony too although i think they might be a little more expensive, but worth a look.

weird, you should have had no problem getting a HDMI slot on a laptop these days. almost all models bar the low ends have one.

hmmm... i would think you're best bet is the Inspiron 1525, i don't think there are many other laptops you could get here that fall under that price bracket. Not sure on the 802.11n though, i think it's an option with it but the documentation isn't clear. From my own experience in the past the lower end Dells wouldn't have the best audio, but they are passable.

I needed a very light & tough one with good battery life, finally settled on a Lenovo X301 with an extra bay battery. I'd have preferred an HDMI out but, given that i'll only ever need it at home, I think DisplayPort to HDMI adapter will do the job.

maybe i'm well wrong here, but for similar money, maybe a couple hundred more, you could have gotten a VAIO Z, that has HDMI and weighs about the same at 1.5kg?

From what I hear, the VAIO isn't as well built and doesn't have as nice a keyboard though. I also prefer the look of the Lenovo, the Sony is a bit flashy for my taste. If a €20 adapter will give me HDMI from a DisplayPort then i'm happy enough, TBH.
