    Hi lads,

Just wondering if you can point me in the right direction. I'm trying to tax my car so filled out the motor tax renewal form and sent it to Meath, as Im now living there, it came back to say the car is red'ed in Dublin so send it to them. Sent it to Dub and they said to send it to Meath as I live there! The car is red'ed in Dublin so someone told me to change address on the registration book, cant find it so getting a replacment !! The form ( RF 134) tell you to send it to your local motor tax office... is that Dub or Meath for me? There is no section on how to pay for it ? is it free ?

    Thanks for your help :)

My understanding is that if you changed address you fill out the section on the current VLC with the new address and send it off to the DOE in Shannon, Co Clare. They then update their system with the new address and post you out a new VLC with the new address.

Try going in in person, if you haven't already. They'll be happy to take your cash and issue a tax disk then and there.

God these offices are so frustrating as with most of the public offices.
It makes my blood boil as they are so inefficient and not in anyway helpful.

Went to the one in Meath and they wouldnt accept it, said they no longer process them due to cutback !! Where are the locations in Dublin? Will they be able to change my address there and then? Im not at the Dublin address anymore.

    Cheers

Sorry I'm a bit confused in your original post you said you were trying to tax your car.

As I read it you seem to have two problems here - you need a replacement VLC and you need to change the old address on the VLC to your new address.

I think the problem as I see it is that they will probably only issue the replacement VLC to the current address on their system ie your old address in Dublin, hence why you need to go to the Dublin motor tax office. The thing is they will not issue it there and then, they may post the new VLC to your old address?

Then assuming you can get the new VLC from your old address you can then fill out the RF111 - CHANGE OF PARTICULARS form with the new address and post it off to Shannon who will in turn update their system and post it out to your Meath address?

I am most likely over complicating things here but it doesn't surprise me if it is done this way with the way our public services operate in this country. Surely there is a more straight forward way of doing both at the same time?

To be honest I would try and speak with someone for advice first in either the DOE in Shannon or your local Motor Tax office.
