    Hi all,

I am currently moving in to a house in the Cork City area and looking to get digital tv and broadband. I dont really want to pay a line rental (though there is a line in the house), I am looking to get Chorus/UPC.

I have a couple questions about it and wondering if ye could help me out please.

I have been told there is no satellite dish with UPC so what is it connected to? Is it through the traditional coaxial tv cables? Reason I ask is that the house was recently done up and want as little cables as possible and holes in the walls!

Was looking at getting the basic TV package, with 3mb Broadband. Can i get Digital+ with this or must i buy movies or sports? was trying to purchase Digital+ online but wasnt able to.

I am also looking at getting multi room - is this easily installed or does it mean more cables??

I know wireless is extra - what router comes with it? Was looking buying a router seperate and installing it myself.

The alternative to chorus is getting sky and eircom broadband but the cost of this is much larger a month than UPC.

    Any feedback would be great.

It all comes through your TV cable. They'll give you a small black cable modem which does the broadband and the phone service.

You can get Digital+ with any digital TV package, it's not available in all areas though. Sometimes you have to phone them to order it, as the website will tell you it is not available in your area even though it is.

You will need a TV cable going into every room you want channels in. As you're in Cork, you'll also need a digital box in every room you want channels as analogue is no longer available. UPC charge €8.50 per month, per box for this.

The router they give out is this model. You're better off sourcing your own router though, something like a Linksys which you could flash with an open source firmware to make it a rock solid router. Installing your own router to UPC is very simple to do yourself.

    Hope this helps!

Thanks very much for the answers but unfortunately I cannot get UPC in my house, see this topic as any suggestions would be gratefully appreciated.
