    Hi All ,

I am looking for a "Gap Wedge" . I have found the PW doesnt give me enough height and SW or Lob (60d)I have dont get the distance . I did a quick google and it seems my X20's are 45Deg for the PW and 55 for the SW , so I'm logically thinking 50deg Gap or Approach wedge would fill the "GAP". I play off a GUI of 20 but have been told by others this is too generous (Cue new row over the Matchplay :) ) so I'm looking for something suited to mid Handicapper say between 11 and 18. I like the look of the vokeys but think they might be difficult to hit , the Cleveland 588 look nice and are apparently suited to my level or do I stick with the X20's and get the AW to match them.Other options were the Callaway Tour wedge . I have a 60deg Lob which I use happily but its a 20euro job so I might go for replacing that aswell and get a pair of wedges .
    Advice please gratefully recieved .

    Cheers

Gap wedges are typically around the 51/52deg range tho it can depend on the particular set of irons. I think it makes sense to look at volkey or cleveland or similar high end makes. Hitting them should not be an issue.

    alright Myksyk,
I think the best advice i can give you is go to your local pro shop and take a few different wedges out for a test run.
I have a 52 vokey wedge and i like it, very solid feel to it, hope this helps

had the same problen a few years back when i changed to x-18's
used to carry mizuno black ox gap and lob wedges 52 & 60 but just didn't seem have a great relationship with the gap w
changed to the aw for the callaways bought online @ golfsmith i think and it has to be said fitted in great, couldn't be happier still use the mizuno 60 lw ..............only when i have to

so in my view get the x-20 aw

Cheers for all the advice . Think I'll have a look for the X20 AW . Seems they are difficult to find . Failing that I'll have a look at the vokeys

    Used X-20 Gap Wedge here - http://www.golfbidder.co.uk/product/302161/Callaway_X-20.html
I've bought stuff from there before.
A little bit dearer than eBay but hassle free and they have a great selection of clubs.

Yea the Callaway AW would be the best option.

You could get the X-22 AW either, newer model and for only around €75.

Might be an idea for you!

Thanks guys . The club on Golfbidder seems a bit overpirced (and a tad short !!)for the condition its in. If the X-22 isnt too much different , I might have a look at that . I'll go along to McGuirks or similar and give it a swing first.

    Thanks Again.

A bit late but just in case you havent bought a gap wedge yet I have a 52d nickent gun metal gap wedge and its brilliant. If youre off around 20, like me, I couldnt justify paying callaway prices if i'm not going to play a lot. The difference in feel etc between the two wedges would be hardly noticeable at our level. If youre looking for a higher end wedge McGuirks often have great condition 2nd hand wedges for sale at more reasonable prices. Cleveland make some animal wedges too!

Here are two very cheap - but good - options:
    http://cgi.ebay.ie/52-Degree-Oil-Can-Finish-588-style-stainless-steel_W0QQitemZ220381761133QQcmdZViewItemQQptZUK_SportsLeisure_Golf_GolfClubs_JN?hash=item220381761133&_trksid=p3911.c0.m14&_trkparms=72%3A1301%7C66%3A2%7C65%3A12%7C39%3A1%7C240%3A1318

    or

I have bought two wedges from this guy already and they are brand new!! Some tiny scuff marks but still in the plastic. His carriage charges - from Dublin - are ridiculous but the clubs are so cheap it does not matter!!
I bought my TM R7 irons in the states last september and it came as a AW to 4 iron set - AW 50 Deg -I love it especially for little pitch and runs around the green..... have had 2 drop for birdies on one round:D. I am (officially!) off 18 but looking forward to going up to about 21/22 when placing goes! New hcp in september last so no opportunity to add a lot before winter rules!

Have a CLeveland CG12 52 degree, and I love it. Would definitely recommend you take a look at them if you haven't already bought something. About 100 yards or closer and its my go to club (and I'd say I'm at a similar level to you judging from your description)

Cheers Lads , but I ended up getting a Callaway X Vintage 50 Degree Wedge and it is the business . Got it up North for 69stg which was a bargain . Have played with it 4 or 5 times now and it is perfect for what I needed .
