Canceling NTL....please help...

I plan to cancel my NTL TV service recently, but find that canceling the service is much harder than having it installed.....

Their website does not show any info on cancellatioin of the service. So I phoned them and was told to post a letter to them. I sent one last Monday but was told that they had not recieved it yet when I called last Thursday and I should send an email to resolutionteam@upc.ie to cancel the service. When I called today( Monday), they still haven't recieved any letter or email and told me that I should send an email to another email address Customer.support@upc.ie.

As I far as I know a written notice needs to be sent 30s days before they would close up the service. My last bill was for the period ending 6 March. I am afraid if I am not able to cancel the service by 6 Feb, I would be charged for another two months. .( Is that part of the reason why NTL changed its monthly bill into a bi-monthly one??)

I was forced to sign up for the direct debit payment because they charge you extra 2 euros per month if you pay by other methods. So I cannot simply ignore their bill. Has anyone cancelled NTL TV service before? What should I do to avoid paying another months fee? Please help ......Thanks in advance.......:o

Send them another letter, via registered post, telling them you want to cancel the service. Also cancel your direct debit, and make sure you inform them you are doing this in the cancellation letter. When they cut you off, they will send you a final bill for any outstanding amount which you can just pay via cheque or credit/debit card. AFAIK they don't charge you the extra €2 when you pay a final bill off via a method other than direct debit.

    HTH.

Last week I sent a letter to them by registered post to cancel my account, and DD payment.
The only snag is it's to a PO box! I was told by the lady at post office that there was "no point" in registering a letter to a PO box, and that was why they had a PO box!
I figured that somebody, at some point had to sign for it, so it was worth paying for.
    Time will tell !!

But your correct OP, they do not make it easy to cancel their service.
    Good luck :-)

I cancelled just recently and strangely it was the most successfull time i ever dealt with UPC-CS.

Just rang the freephone number, was on hold for a few minutes, spoke to the relevant people, a few days later i got a win-back letter in the post, offering a deal and reminding me to send the written confirmation if i wanted to continue to cancel.

Last week i got a cheque in the post for some outstanding rental, since they owed me a a tenner.

It went soo smooth, i was almost tempted to go back :) ...

They your friend is entitled to a refund. the 30 day clock starts when they phone, and unless he had part of a one year contract to run-out, he did not need to pay the second month, they should refund this...

I found it a nightmare to cancel my UPC, I have convinced 2 people not to sign up to them, Perhaps they are getting the message.

Thank you all for your help and replies.:)
I finally got a call from UPC ( to my suprise) and said they were going to cut off my service by the end of Feb. I am so happy not to see their bills any more.:P

Although the customer service staff would tell you to send a letter to a PO box, I think the most efficient way is to send an email to their customer support team and at least you could save the email draft as evidence in case dispute arises in the future.....

what is the PO box address that you sent the letter to, just spent 10 minutes on the phone going through their stupid phone system to be told that they had all gone home. they do not post the address on the website.... what a stupid company..

    UPC
    PO Box 321
    Dublin 3.

I can confirm that my registered letter to above PO box did the trick !
I got a phone call at 9:30 AM on Sat morning ( not impressed at the timing), to offer me 4 months free rental and a free digital box for life if I changed my mind. I did not :-)

666? Even as a joke thats in poor taste!

I just e-mailed them with my full name, addy and a/c number. They got back to say there is a months notice and that arrangements would be made at a later date for collection of gear if required (which I presume it is).

I'd rather you didn't post that information here please.

Also we don't drag up old threads.
