    hi friends,

I'm looking to buy a 2003/2004 1.4 Renault Scenic or Renault Megane or Ford focus or Peugeot 206 estate. All these cars have mileage between 19K-38K with a price range around 6000 Euros. Could you please suggest which one to buy? or is there any better 2003/2004 1.4 Saloon car for this price?

    Thanks a mil.
    G

Focus. Dont go near either of the Renaults. You'll only have massive trouble with them down the line. The 206 might not be a bad car, but i'd still have the focus over it.

    +1

Toyota Corolla? a bit bland but you cant argue with their reputation for reliability. My dad has the D4D 1400cc, it does about 56mpg in the country with no city driving.

thanks for your advice friends. Now I should definetely drop my idea of Renault. What's your opinion on Skoda octavia? Is Ford focus better than Octavia?

Actually I have small family and we saved around 6k to buy a car. I cannot afford expensive repairs or maitainence costs in future. so, I'm looking for a low mileage saloon car that doesn't give me unpleasant surprises by giving huge bills of repairs.

Guys, I'm completely dependant on your advices as I don't know anybody who can give me good advice on cars.

    thx
    G

Given that budget and low running costs are a priority and you need a family car something like these perhaps.

This place should be named the anti-renault forum.....

Try 'em before you buy, but if you're clever you might be able to get yourself a bargain. 1.4 petrol may be dire, but try a 1.5 diesel..... There are bargains to be had that might not be available with a Focus...

Sure, I got meself an 02 Laguna for the price of a wheel balancing...

I would have rather had the wheel balancing :D:D

I would go for a focus myself.

I have a Megane 1.5 106bhp, brilliant car, but could not recommend the 1.4, not on reliability, just no where near enough pull for a car of that size.

We have a 00 1.4 LX Ford Focus from new and have been talking about changing it for years, but everytime we get close to it we chicken out and change the other car. We have had three bigger cars since the focus and they went first. Our Focus has 140K on it and running perfect, got the TBelt done at 90K in a back street garage for a few pound and it has never had any issues with NCT. It has recently needed wheel bearings but again only a few euros repair. The car is practical and so easy to run I couldnt recommend it more for a family. Rear seats fold down no problem and it takes a good load with easy access to the boot. I would say at this point in time if we are going to change it , then it will be hard for us not to go for a newer model of the same. If you are buying straight then you should be able to get Ghia Diesel in UK for a great price.

Forget the naysayers: bought 2 x new 1.4 Scenics and 1 x used diesel.

    This model:

Excellent performance from the 1.4. 95 bhp iirc, and never, in 90k miles, gave any trouble or used any oil. Never gave any elec probs, either. The 1.9dci diesel one was a waste of time (slow).

The newer one, this, for some reason, same engine, doesn't perform as well - maybe it is heavier, or they've detuned it somehow:

Nothing wrong with a Focus, mind - one of Ford's best ever cars.

You don't want to acknowledge that as truth because, deep down in places you don't talk about at the Green Party, you want me on that road, you need me on that road. We use words like freedom, enjoyment, sport and community. We use these words as the backbone of a life spent instilling those values in our families and loved ones. You use them as a punch line. I have neither the time nor the inclination to explain myself to a man who rises and sleeps under the tax revenue and the very freedom to spend it that I provide, and then questions the manner in which I provide it. I would rather you just said "thank you" and went on your way. Otherwise I suggest you pick up a bus pass and get the ********* ********* off the road”
