Can I cancel? Got a test appt less than 10 days from now

I got a test appointment in the post this morning for tomorrow week so it is too late to postpone giving 10 days notice. Not my fault bacause I only got the letter today.

I had expected 4 or 5 weeks notice and I was going to do a lesson a week. This week I have no money for lessons, could probably manage to pay for 1 lesson if I could even get an appointment.

Right now I'm not good enough to pass and I've done very little driving since Christmas but I did learn using only lessons and did 12 since last August. I've been reading here lately that 100 hours of driving practice is recommended but back in August people were saying that they were passing after 10 hours of lessons and no further practice. I know everyone's different but any advice would be appreciated.

    Thanks.

Well if you cancel now you will not receive a refund, a test is a very valuable learning experience, I personally think you should do it.

Just go for it. The worst that can happen is you fail.

Like the others have said, just go on with it.Its not a hard test at all, just keep calm and watch out for everything.I think you will pass.

Thanks guys, I'm thinking of not doing it, bad weather means I can't practice this week, not suitable weather for doing lessons either----frosty roads and weather alerts, I'm nervous in normal driving conditions.

Will ring about it tomorrow, I don't see why I should forfeit the fee when they give me an appointment in less than 10 days so I get no time to cancel.

    Dont cancel it!!

Your making a much bigger deal out if than it is.You make choices and you dont look back.

You've payed for the test and you have had loads of lessons, know one ever really feels ready for a test, you just have to suck it up and get on with it.If you fail, you fail, its no big deal.

Weather should clear up by next week and even if it doesnt, it may work in your advantage as there will be less cars around.

You've paid for it, and you're not going to get the fee back. Take a chance, what if you pass, which i'd say theres a good chance you would. And if you dont? You get the benefit of 1 test under your belt, people are willing to pay good money for pretests these days, how about taking a chance on a real test!

You've paid for it, and you're not going to get the fee back.

I rang yesterday to ask if I could cancel/postpone it and the lady on the phone said yes because they had given me less than 10 days notice so I don't loose the fee.

I know it would be great practice and I should do it but with the bad roads this week I can't book a lesson and I'm seriously lacking in motivation this week to do anything, not just driving.

Starting next week one lesson a week until I pass.

    Thanks for your help guys:)

That's interesting! Thanks for posting back, had wondered about that situation myself in the past. Nice to have clarification on it.
    Cheers,

    Cheers,

I hope that is clarification and not dependant on who you speak to on the phone the day you call. It would make sense though for the 10 day rule to work in both directions.

It's so inefficient. What they should do is keep a list of cancellations on the computer and give one of those appointments to people who ring asking for them. Better chance of people turning up than sending out last minute appointments to people on the waiting list.
