Which cycle magazine is the best for bike reviews, tips, advice, etc?

I find cycling plus quite good - a fair mix of kit reviews (bikes, clothes, components) and training tips. As with all bike mags out there little if any reference to irish cycling but frequently has circuits and information on cycles in GB.

Cycling Plus is OK, but I've become tired with it so I stopped subscribing. In one issue, they spent 8 pages reviewing multi-tools. I felt it was overkill.

I like having a magazine to read. Especially the ones about racing as they do good interviews and rider diaries.

For a weekly fix I like Cycling Weekly, a bit GB oriented but they do have some reports on sportives in Ireland...I used to buy Cycling Plus a lot but I find now that the stuff in it is just a reprint of the content they have on their site bikeradar.com..If I'm buying a monthly magazine (Like Raam, I too like to have a physical magazine to read) it's usually either Cycle Sport or Procycling, not bad as long as you're into the pro racing side of the sport..

Or as Caroline_ie says, theres a lot of stuff on the web..For tech reviews I find pezcyclingnews.com very good...

I subscribe to Cycling Plus (find it ok for products reviews and stuff), and tend to pick up Procycling Most months. Also quite like Cyclesport...

I like CycleSport because in one issue David Millar gave a nice pasta recepie that I can't stop making.

Where do you pick up your cycling magazines?

In the last couple of months I found ProCycling only in Eason in O'Connol street.

Tonight, Eason in Dundrum had MBR (that I took) and the Cycling Weekly summer fitness special. A'm I to late?, it is 1/3 into the month and all are sold out?

A bit frustrating that the average Spar etc dont stock cycling related magazines? - 90% is TheSun type

I've never had a problem finding Cycling Weekly, Cycling Plus, Cyclesport or Procycling mags in Easons O'Connell St or Nassau St or in Reads.

Could be the timing though, yes you're only 1/3 way through the month, but I think the publish dates are around 15-21st, so it's the end of the cycle for the mags (except Cycling Weekly of course)

I think a subscription is my only practical option then - and my birthday is coming up :D

    • Cook 400g of pasta. I use whole wheat penne.
    • While that is cooking, do the following...
    • In a saucepan, with some olive oil, fry 1 large onion and if you can handle it, 1 large chilli.
    • Add a tin of tomatoes, the chunky stuff.
    • Add 1 large jar (about 475ml) of arrabbiata tomato sauce.*
    • Lash some salt and pepper in there
    • 3-4 large tablespoons of pesto
    • half a glass of red wine.
    • Add some fresh basil
    • Add a few drops of balsamic vinegar.
    • Add a few drops of tobasco.
    • Add the pasta to the sauce and stir in 100-150g of some strong cheese.
    • Bake in an oven for about 40-45 minutes at 180. Personally I find that 15-20 minutes is enough for me.
    • Oh, it goes well with lots of roasted veg.

*You can buy cheaps tins of Arrabbiata in Lidl where the normal tins of tomato are or else pay 3 quid for a fancy jar of Dolmio Arrabbiata sauce.

If I'm very bored, I'll pick up a copy of Mbuk or What Mountain Bike. They pass some time.

Buy a roadie magazine..? Are you mad ? What a waste of money.

In the past it was neck and neck between cycle sport and Pro Cycling.

But realised how trashy CS is getting. 'The Sun' of cycling magazines!
I would buy Pro cycling for Tim de Waele's photography alone.Amazing stuff.

Cycling weekly has waaay too much of a British influence for my liking.

My OH got me a Cycling Plus subscription for my b-day but I recently changed it over to Pro Cycling because I was getting a bit bored of CP. The CP/PC subscriptions are a great pressie, I really like the way they let you change your magazine easily and without any extra charge.

I started off with Cycle Sport - but have started to read Pro-cycling more recently and think am going to make a perm. switch.

I got one copy of Cycling Plus and it was bike of the year - which someone passed onto me - and found that even I had not the will nor the inclination to read 20 pages about guys testing 36 bikes.

There is a Tour De France - Guide which came out by Cycle Sport crew and it features a double DVD - Lance and Eddy Mercx - which I've picked up. Cost €10.16 - but haven't looked at the DVD yet.
