I think it could be nerve related. Try going a little longer without blinking and see if you can break the habit. Another thing you can try is Clarymist eye spray - it's a new dry eye product I can totally recommend...Optrex have a similar one on the market. You spray it on your closed eyelid and it soaks through to form an oily coating on your eye. Much better than eye drops and it can be used with contacts, it feels very cooling on your eye too, it might help reduce the urge to blink.

It could be down to allergies or a wee infection in ur eye - are your eyes red too? Could also be down to your enviroment: dusty/air conditioned areas can make you blink more. Or your eyes could be dry, in which case the Clarymist/optrex should work wonders.

Alot of people do blink excessively as a sort of 'nervous twitch' so I agree with Ann, when you're thinking about your blinking try to stop yourself and break the habit.

If its just a little twitch of your eyelids its called benign myokaemia - brought on by excessive caffeine, stress and tiredness.

hi , some very interesting points there . yes my eyes tend to be red quiet alot , i am alergic to house dust mite , tree / grass pollen and dog hair and of course being on the computer all day doesnt help . you mention caffeine , stress and tiredness , well yes these would all be associated with me , have been trying to ease out of my lifestyle but as you can imagine it is easier said then done . one thing that i have noticed is that when i retain my breathing my alergic symptoms and eyes seem to be that much more at ease .

thanks for the reply - i will try incorporate some of your points .

    kind regards

    andy

I have one really dry eye and when I got it checked out I was told to use a cotton ear bud and wash around the eyelash area with baby shampoo or bread soda in water

I blink a hell of a lot more than most people - have dry eyes so put it down to that

Andy, why don’t you ask the laservision eye surgeon what he thinks? I had come across this forum and it seems very active http://www.laservision.ie/content/wondering-are-you-suitable-laser-eye-surgery-queries-your-prescription-other-eye-complicati-0[/FONT]
