Ok,my gf needs to get the morning after pill. I have never been to the docotr and niether has she so are unsure about where to get it. Do you have to be registered with a docotr to make an appointment? Ifso, can you register on the day and do you need to bring anything with you?? If not what options have we got?

Also, how effective is it,as I am REALLY REALLY worried.

    Thanks

Most drs will do it you just ring and explain what the appointment is for.
or make an appointment with any of the family planning clincs around the country.

The M.A.P. is most effective if taken with in 24 hours but can be take up until 72 hours.

Any gp can prescribe the morning after pill. Just go along as normal. You can also go to your family planning clinic or if you are really really stuck, the a&e

If you're young be prepared for a lecture from the doc! The morning after pill is statistically the most effective contraceptive (if taken within a certain window from time of intercourse) but it's best avoiding needing it in the first place! :) Its pricey too

The pill itself is only like €15 but to see the doc its like €50 - €60 depending where you go because you have to get a prescription to get it..:)

I never got a lecture, it would be a bit unprofessional to be giving lectures to peopel about their lifestyle.

The M.A.P. is very harsh on the system as it is roughly 6 months dose of the artifical hormoanes used in the contraceptive pill and is not to be taken carelessly.

The MAP is not 6 months worth of hormones, it is a far safer dose than that.

However I do agree that it is harsh- be prepared for the terrible metalic taste in your mouth for a few days and the hideous nausea, not to mention the nerves till you get your next period. If you can avoid the MAP by using a condom and lubricant or other form of responsible contraceptive, best to go down that route instead. Best of luck to you, but mainly to your girlfriend who is going to have to ride this out. *hugs*

Don't worry about it, doctors are very busy, they hear this problem constantly. The doctor would much rather have a young person looking for the morning after pill sitting in front of them than someone with cancer or something serious.

You won't be in there more than a few minutes and it is the sensible thing to do instead of risking an unwanted pregnancy.

It's not the best thing for you healthwise but as a once off I wouldn't worry about it and the cost of seeing the doctor should be motivation enough to not let it happen again.
