Bathroom Thieves!

Has anyone else encountered these machines?

I was in a toilet in a cork hotel on saturday and I fancied a wee box of m&ms. Put in my €2 and bang, gone and not an M&M to be found.

This wasn't the first time this happened though, and like, probably, 100s of other people, I'd be ashamed to go all the way to the bar to complain. There's a machine in Waterford that I know of as well that just swallows the money...there's no "out of order" sign on the machine.

Has this happened to you recently? Have we discovered a bit of a scam? People relying on folk not bothering to ask about their €2?

Id say if you feel strongly about it you should just have the cheek to ask for your 2 euro.Afterall we are living in a recession here!:D

You should have taken 2 euro worth of toilet paper in return.

Too right, he could have Wispa'd it to the barman, if he was ashamed to be asking for his 2 euro back.

To put your mind at ease somewhat OP, those machines are serviced and refilled by a third party so the space rarely give a sh*te.

I dont think buying food in toilets is a good idea anyway. When you come out to your friends they will say

"M&M's, cool, where did you get those" as you hand them some
"Oh, I got them in the toilet".

I worked in a Waterford hotel for four years, we had one of those vending machines in the bathroom.

It worked fine most of the time, but on occasion would eat the money and, like the cigarette machine, was owned and operated by an outside company, meaning there was nothing we could effectively do.

So most night shifts we would get about three or four pricks chancing the 'machine ate my money' bit (and a few bums coming in knowing full well it was policy to refund and avoid a row). If we put an out of order sign up, it was usually disappeared within the hour with some other a**hole begging for pennies.

If you were one of the Waterford ones, I will find you

I hate it when publicans profit from constantly playing Twix on their customers. Same old story, you'd try to complain but you'd be drowned out by Snickers from the other patrons.

OP, have you thought about drinking in pubs?

We used to work in a place that had a Tampax machine in the ladies toilet. Whenever we needed money to go out that night we would break the machine, but as it was mostly lads working there no girl would come up to you saying she is on the rag but the machine swallowed her money

We made so much from this, had a few great nights out of the takings

the same thing happened me a few years back, when incredibly, one of my chat-up lines, worked. But the maachine swallowed my money.

She said "buy me some M&M's and I'll shag you". You have no idea how disappointed I was....

I put €5 in the johnnies machine in Coppers at xmas and got nothing from it. Dont think there would have been much point in complaining to the management. Borrowed one from a mate so it was all ok.

You should have asked for something in lieu of the money.

Why would you want to buy food in a public toilet?

the old chocolate bar vending machine scam on the London underground went like this

the guy filling the machines didn't fill them fully, just put one bar at the back where the sensor was, people put in money and get nothing until the last bar and only then does the machine stop taking money because of the sensor
