It seems Dan Carter is out for the rest of the season with a torn Achilles. AFAIK he only actually played 5 matches for Perpingian.

What a waste of money and what have Perpignan gained from it? Nothing. If they get to the play off's they ll be beaten again just like last year. Hopefully this will be a deterrent to clubs coughing up obscene amounts of money to get a player for only one season.

I'd say clubs will be looking for a pay-as-you-play type deal for season long SH signings from now on.

He's obviously knackered in the midst of a seemingly never-ending season (currently in its 13th straight month for him).

Tough poop Perpignan. Buyer beware and all that...

A bit harsh, but I can't say I'm too disapointed by this news. Obviously it's never good for a player to get injured, but as Steveo said, this will serve notice that these things can go horribly, and expensively wrong. And if players are offered to sign on a game by game pay deal they will be less likely to abondon ship as they know they can get injured at any point and injury = not getting paid.

It's worrying if the game goes the football root and money is thrown at everything. Hopefully this will keep things in perspective and will advise caution on how much clubs are willing to offer in future.

From Carter's perspective his holiday pay is fantastic.:)

+1...I'm currently experiencing a warm glow of schadenfreude at this one (not at Carter's expense I hasten to add, but Perpignan's...) It was a crass move, and not something I'd like to see becoming a feature of the game. Luckily, rugby,by its nature doesn't seem to lend itself to this sort of stuff as easily as soccer.

Similarly the failure of Toulon's recent attempt to buy a team off the shelf recently is also an entirely good thing imo.

They've either got a deal with him that stipulates certain conditions if he doesn't play or they've got insurance. Perpignan haven't just thrown away the entire sum of money.
