UPC DVR box not responding

    Hi,

Would anyone have any idea (before I spend hours on hold to NTL :) ) why my UPC DVR box (have it about 6 months now) often dosen't respond to anything when I go to turn it on when I get home? I never plug it out, just turn it off through the remote. Then, I normally turn it on by pressing the UPC button button on the remote. These days it seems like every day when I go to turn it on, nothing happens. Pressing the buttons on the front of the box dosen't make any difference either. The time is on the front of it alright and works fine but its like the box itself has crashed. The only thing that seems to solve it when this happens is to unplug it and plug it in again. Then it seems to work fine.

    Any ideas?

I don't know, but for the last week or so mine has been acting up a lot ... sound OK, but frozen picture, several spontaneous reboots per day, locking up while fast-forwarding recordings etc. Only solution seems to be unpluggging it and plugging it back in again.

Mine is fine once its up and running. I haven't seen any problems when its running at all really, its just the getting it on in the first place thats the problem.

With mine when I turn it on after being in standby it may take about 30 seconds to start responding to anything, i.e. I'm stuck on whatever channel it's on and can't do anything else till it starts responding. The mini guide can also take a while to start displaying anything as well. I've never had it completely lock up on me yet.

UPC know about non responding DVR's

The've told me to unplug DVR, remove card, plug back in and start DVR, insert Card when prompted, enter 131 for area code, DVR will rebuild channels list
