Fuel shocks, depression knocks?

    Something is nagging me about the global financial crisis, it seemed to spiral shortly after the massive spike in fuel prices last year. Was this petro-shock the pin that popped the bubble?

    Good question, I'd say no on the basis that the housing and credit markets started topping out in 05 in the case of US housing stocks and by the start of 07 the momentum to the downside had already started eg subprime. Even if you take an Irish example, Anglo's share price topped out in Feb07. At the time although energy prices were rising at the time they were not excessive.
