Can someone tell me, the pigeon shooting seasons ends today. I was asked by a farmer to shoot a few on his land as they are causing damage to some of his newly planted crops. Can I legally shoot these after today?

you can shoot pigeon legally from today , but only on the field that the crop damage is been done in .

So as long as they are doing damage to a crop I can shot them in the field that they are doing the damage in? Is there any time of the year they cannot be shot as a pest? How would one prove they are causing damage?

I have been approved by a farmer who says they are doing damage, is that enough to start picking them off?

What is the deal with shooting pigeons in a grain store? Is it legal as they are a pest? Also what would be best to use, I'm told other lads use shot guns but I would be a little cautious about that. Seems dangerous.

    Any thoughts?

I would never shoot them in a grain store with a shotgun - like you said...too dangerous.

I have helped farmers with pigeon problems in grain stores in the past......we just watch their entry point to find the best flightline and set up to cover their approach to the grain store.

It is hetic shooting at the start but they soon 'cop on' to the ambush.

Set up in a different location next time which still covers the flightline to the grain store.

I used quarter choke with 28g no. 7's as they are only 25 - 30 metres on approach....enabling a good, clean kill with ample spread.

You will find that many of the pigeons attacking the store are feral pigeons......different colour to woodpigeons but can still be shot if causing damage. If feral pigeons are shot use gloves to gather up the carcasses as they are often classed as 'rats with wings' and can carry many diseases.

Air rifle (sub-uk FAC) .177 would be ideal in a grain store.

What sort of a price range would that be in? I want to budget myself since I've never shot an air rifle before and don't have the means to do it other than buy and try.
