Should I be able to ping an eircom client?

Might there be a default setting on their router that prevents such.

It is a cayman 3000 by Netopia.

I have been trying to VNC him all day without any luck.

He has no problems VNCing me.

    any suggestions

    thanks

    Rob

I would think you should be able to ping his router.

Has he checked that he has VNC server running and that his firewall permits it to receive connections from the internet.

IIRC the default setting on Netopia Routers is to allow ICMP so you should be able to ping the router.

Can you ping the router at all?

Can you do a port scan on the IP address?

5900 is the default port for VNC.

    Thanks guys for the responses.

As far as i can tell, during the session all firewalls were temporarily turned off.

I'll ask him to try a port scan, but I'm guessing his settings would be using the standard 5900.

Tell him to check Windows firewall as well.

You don't need ICMP for VNC to work.
