Driving test waiting time ?

Hi, does anyone know what the approx wait time is from when you apply for the driving test to when you actually sit the test ? I have heard they have sped up the process recently.

Basically, I feel I am almost ready to sit the test but could do with a few more lessons. Just wondering if I should just book the test now and by the time the weeks/months pass and the test comes around I will be ready.

    Thanks in advance, JTH :)

The test waiting times had fallen back mid to late '08, but they have since risen back up again. As for how long you'll be waiting, it depends on what centre you'd be applying too, but that said, i dont think anyone could give you an accurate guess.
So i would say apply asap, and get your lessons. You could be waiting 3+ months for a test date, or you could get lucky and get one in ~7/8 weeks.

If i apply now for a test in June, i should be ok right? Have to wait 6 months anyway and i've had 3 lessons already and i'm doing well. Can you do the test at the weekend?

My instructor has been saying that there was meant to be a new law coming in this month to require each learner driver to have 20professional driving lessons before their test. 800euro that would cost:mad:

I'm sure i don't need that much so hope the law doesn't come in til after june now.

There is no such law coming into place. I would be wary of an instructor telling you such, dont tell him anything and see if he pushes lessons as a legal requirement. If he does, tell him where to go!

Really? I know that it is a requirement in many other countries such as poland to have 20 lessons before you do your test. I think Germany has stricter requirement. I don't think he is pushing lessons out of me. He is good instructor and i don't think i'll need 20 lessons. Neither does he as he is saying i'm greatly improving just after 2 lessons. I was a nervous wreck at first. Can't wait to get my full license. Only problem is i can't get much practice as it is too expensive to get added as a named driver on my boyfriend's policy. 500euro just until july is madness.

It's possible that compulsory lessons may come in at some stage this year, but if so it'll be much later in the year and certainly not within the next 3 months

The waiting times were updated on the 19th this month - Wicklow seems to have remained the same at 10 weeks so it's not too bad especially with Bray closing and all. It's a shame, I would have loved to take my test in Bray.

I don't see the waiting times for dunlaoighre test route on there. Anybody know why? i heard you can take your test there. Maybe it's under a different name, i'm not sure.

SGS centres aren't covered on those stats.

So the wait time listed are how long you need to wait to get notification of a test or to actually take a test?

i thought that on a provisional license you had to wait 6 months before even being able to apply for a test?

I'd take these: http://www.drivingtest.ie/Stats%20English.pdf with a huge pinch of salt. They are not correct in the slightest. I've been waiting longer that all of those. A mate of mine has been waiting since November for a date and he's a re-applicant. They are utterly useless.

Ditto here, a friend recently passed their test in Churchtown (9 weeks on that list) but I know that there was 14 weeks between the application and the test date.

I applied early January and got a response on 20 February (test in 4 weeks in Rathgar), so I was on the list maybe 6-7 weeks. Surprising, as I thought it might be getting close to May before I actually did the test.
