Hello, hoping someone may be able to help with a question. A friend of mine is currently working in a nightclub and working in the cloakroom which is a ticket based cloakroom where you pay for you jacket or whatever. Recently a customer handed in his ticket and the jacket was gine. This is fair enough, the customer should be paid for the lost goods. The question is, who is responsible for paying the customer, the nightclub or the worker who was working in the cloakroom ? I think its the nightclub as they have insurance and this would or should be covered. However, my friend is been forced by her employer too pay for this loss - i dont think this is right but i cannot find anything that is lawfully protecting her from her employer forcing her to pay ? can anyone tell me if there's anything out there regarding this type of issue ? thanks

Read the contract and employee handbook, in general any deductions is a red herring unless stipulated in the contract.

    have a look at this
    http://www.irishstatutebook.ie/1991/en/act/pub/0025/sec0005.html
