    Hello,

I'm hoping that someone may be able to help me with the following suitution. I'm currently working but my hours have been reduced too under 20 hours per week and my husband is on an avg wage. We have one child and live in rented accomdation. With my reduced hours and the possiblity of losing my job, do I qualify for Jobseeker’s Benefit in part ? I have read the details supplied @ http://www.welfare.ie/EN/Publications/sw19/Pages/sw19_sect6.aspx but the question remains unanswered. Can anyone help ?

The hours you are now working are irrelevant. Social welfare go by days. Even if you work one hour in a day, that is considered as a working day.

It's hard to say if you have an entitlement to benefit without knowing further information. It depends on a few factors like how many days you were working a week previously, and how many PRSI contributions you paid in the year 2007. (Social welfare records always work on contributions from 2 years previously) Your husband's earnings will only be taken into consideration if you do not have enough contributions yourself.

Best bet is to go down to your local social welfare office on your first day of unemployment. If your days of work have been reduced, you may possibly be able to claim for those days.
