Napoleonic Wars - was he really the aggressor?

    Hello all.

I'm no expert on Napoleon or that period in histopry. However I recently read that he actually only declared war once, and that was against the Russians in 1812.

This has been driving me nuts. I've tried to google it and couldn't find anything although I did find many sites claiming he was always reluctant to use for and the napoleonic system of europe was built up to protect france after the successful conclusion of the wars of agression against her in the 1790's.

So, has anyone any thoughts on this and more specifically, does anyone know how many times he did actualy declare war (as opposed to fight a war that was launched on him).

    Thanks in advance!
