I was having a look at the front of the Trinity news and two articles stuck out that haven't been mentioned here Could someone please tell me what was so controversial about the last issue of piranha, I seem to have missed it. Oh and was anybody at the gumball challenge? Was it indeed as crazy as the paper makes it out to be?

The provost certainly seemed to be raging about the gumball thing, apparently he was seen walking about campus with a security team.
There's posters about campus now with gumball 2 written all over them so it can't have been that bad. I can't see any soceity running a second one if the last one was that crazy.

I think the problematic article in the last Piranha! was the one offering a map of TCD and suggesting different ways to launch a one-man attack on the college, ranked by difficulty and probable casualty levels.

Are you serious? That one man would have to be mad skilled to actually achieve anything...

Where do you get this Piranha thing? It's not the comedy soc is it?

I'm always cautious when I walk past their Hamilton stand....not so long ago I was walking past and one of the ones there grabbed my leg and tried to make me buy tickets to something. She let me go eventually when I said I'd take a leaflet

The Comedy Soc have their own publication, 'Goldfish'. Piranha! is harder to find than the other papers & magazines (I think the print run is much smaller), but try popping into House 6 from time to time to see what's available. In fact I've only ever got my hands on one copy, one of the later editions that came out last year. Wasn't very impressive, a load of bad jokes and name-calling - although the website for this year looks a little better.

Sounds like something I would do, but you said she, odd.

Are you feminine looking? Maybe they didn't get a proper look at your face

I have seen a few issues of Piranha, and was not very impressed. They call themselves satirical, but really they're just trying to shock people by any means possible. The last issue I saw had an absolutely disgusting piece about Sarah Palin and her family, involving her pissing everywhere while her husband fist f*cked their Downs Syndrome baby etc (her other kids, her daughter's unborn foetus, and a dog were involved somehow as well, I don't remember what rank things they were doing) How is that satirical? Don't bother picking up that rag, not worth the paper it is printed on

Goldfish is the magazine done by the Comedy Soc, some of the stuff in it was pretty good but the last issue was a bit disappointing. I have no idea when the next Goldfish is due out, but it probably is worth picking up if you see it in House 6

Ah so that's why Eircom are getting rid of those phonebooths.

And yeah I was thinking of comedy soc's Goldfish magazine. Only ever read the one they gave out during Fresher's week and it was good

Hah yeah it was a she. She was lying on the floor in front of the table. I didn't even see her until I felt something around my leg and looked down

Actually just thinking about it, it could have the the SU stand

Um... that was a rip off of the Aristocrats joke, and as far as I remember they just said the baby stank and there was no mention of a dog. Ah well.

    Example; http://ie.youtube.com/watch?v=tw10xa_xtNg

I think there are some up in the pubs office if anyone still wants one.

Any idea who edits it now? Every so often I get an angry e-mail. The DUPubs site still lists me as the editor and I get the brunt of some of the stuff written.

It sounds from what you are saying that some of the stuff is pretty extreme. I don't think we were that bad back then. Must go rummage, I think the online versions of the old ones are still up.

piranha! was always about free speech and such but some of the things I've heard coming out of it are far gone. Is this the norm with it now?
