That's eh, a little pricey at $5,555

You could almost get a free bike to go with it.

Are they kidding with that price? Don't they know that nobody has any money anymore? I've even taken to pulling wheelies on me Cervelo down the local supermarket for spare change! Do you know how many I'll have to do in order to afford that groupset? Huh? Loads, that's how many.

Is it really necessary though? Seems like an awful waste of development money really.

If they didn't do it no-one would know how much of a bad idea it was.

Mavic proved this yonks ago. :)

Just because Mavic couldn't get it to work right ten years ago doesn't mean that Shimano hasn't got it right now, the technology (particularly the batteries) has moved on a lot since then.

I'll still be happy to have my bike independent of the power grid :)

How many riders outside professionals can justify that kind of expense? Considering you can get a pretty amazing bike with regular dura ace for the price of that groupset, the only reason someone would buy that is for the novelty.

    It does look cool though.

Does it do anything that regular Dura-ace doesn't? I'm really struggling to see the point of it. Are any of the professional teams using it? Maybe if it was wireless and didn't use cables at all it'd make sense. That could be where they're going with it and happy days if they are but at the moment its a silly exercise!

More accurate shifting, supposedly. Cos the previous Dura Ace was complete rubbish
Gerolsteiner had it last year. I think Weggman had some trouble with it at one point in a race. But there are always mechanicals.

    Super Record 11 is $2950 (53% of Di2).

    Chorus 11 is $1866 (63% of Super 11).

    It's all about diminishing returns.

There seem to be a decent number of US cyclists with $5k+ bikes, judging from posts I see on US forums.

Yes, but $5k on just the groupset for the non-professional seems a bit excessive. I wouldn't hold it against anyone of course, I mean it is their money and none of my business what they do with it. I just can't see why someone would choose this system over the likes of Dura Ace or Record 11. What would the likely time savings be in a race unless you are a top professional?

I have to say it looks pretty impressive:

I'm no expert (I've only ever used Tiagra), but i've never seen seamless shifting on the front derailleur like that.

It also self trims, which is nice, but not essential.

    Compared to what?

If your sports cars are depreciating by $50k a year, $5k on a groupset is small change.

Well, its all relative, I'm only comparing it to what is already there at the top end in road biking. After all, $5,000 won't get you much car but it will get you a very nice complete bike.

It's a very nice system, and as the technology matures and filters down the line of consumer groupsets, we may see more affordable systems that offer a good alternative to the wired groupsets.

At the moment it is not a case of diminishing returns, how does the performance gain over Record 11 justify the price difference?

I'm not saying its not a good system, or its not reliable, or I don't like the benefits of electronic shifting. I just don't see it as an alternative right now.

    Another small video of it.

....I just like the colour of that bike :)

Was speaking to my LBS and the owner told me all the imports for Ireland (and maybe the UK had been cancelled due to a total absence of demand)
