Japanese beers

Anywhere in Dublin where I can get me some Japanese beers? You can get Kirin in Dunnes on Georges St but that's all I've ever found, and Kirin wouldn't be my favourite Japanese beer. Is there anywhere that stocks Asahi, Sapporo, Yebitsu and the like? I've seen them all sold in restaurants in Dublin so I know they're in the country :D

Superquinn tends to have Asahi and Sapporo too, I think. I've seen Yebitsu in specialist beer off licences like Redmond's of Ranelagh. There's also a fairly decent fake-Japanese wheat beer called iKi -- made in the Netherlands with yuzu fruit and green tea, and a hell of a lot tastier than any of the above mentioned lagers, IMO.

Some O'Briens stores stock a couple of brands Asahi and Kirin at least. and most good managers would order you a case of whatever you wanted. I like these beers too. With food they are very refreshing. Nice to sit in waggamamas with a plate of noodles and a cold one.

The off licence across the road from Griffith College (can't think of the name of the shop) sells Asahi.

I'm pretty sure that was iKi, as mentioned above. It's not Japanese nor made with rice, but it is quite tasty. Lots of the specialty beer off licences have it, and Mao restaurants do it. You can also buy direct from the distributor with free delivery.

Beernut, thanks for reply, but their expert said it was japanese rice beer. Unless he made reference to japanese rice beer in the same line? maybe I'm wrong?

    Mal.

Was hardly Tsing Tao ? Thats the main "rice" beer I can think of - iKi is as oblivious said.

I think that's it. Most of the Japanese or Japanese-branded beers we get here are made with rice. Yebitsu is one of the few that's all-malt.

There aren't very many Japanese-styled beers in Ireland. Get yourself a Sapporo, an Asahi, a Yebitsu and an iKi and decide for yourself which one's yum :)

A big Tesco with a large offy section will probably stock them. No idea where the biggest Dublin Tesco is though.

iKi is on sale at the Abbott's in Cork for €1 a bottle - best before is just up.

Pretty good at that price - lovely for a summer's evening in the garden!

There are not that many (authentic) Japanese beers,Asahi beer owns a huge chunk of the market and Sapporo owns the rest really, here in Tesco Cavan town they sell Asahi super dry 500ml bottles for €2.79c if you are looking for beer made with rice you might be thinking of rice wine called Sake and you can find that in most good off licences or buy it online. You could buy Fosters as that is owned by Asahi as well lol.

Orion is seriously the nicest Japanese beer, mega points to anyone who can find it in Ireland. Also like Kirin Ichiban
