Griffith FE1 Course

Doing 4 subjects at the moment but I wish I had just bought the manuals and worked from those on my own.

It's not good value for money. I'm doing it in Cork and am paying the same as people in Dublin but getting much less for the money. There's no car parking, no gym, no free tea and coffee, no video room for watching the dvd's of the lectures (as advertised in brochure).

They don't seem to want FE1 students around the college at all, they want us to give them money but stay at home and watch the videos online (which most people do).

When I tried to get a password to use the computers in the college they were very unfriendly about it and it took a few days to set that up.The fe1 videos on moodle are actually blocked on the college computers.

For a few weeks I delivered homework to them but they are so good at making me feel unwelcome that I have stopped doing that and now I post it directly to Dublin myself. I'm sure they much prefer this, less work for them.

I have paid a lot for the course and I wanted to be able to use the college to study in because I'm not very disciplined about working at home but I've kind of been intimidated out of there. Right now I only go in there about once every 2 weeks to use their printers to print the huge EU handouts.

The actual lectures are good enough but it takes a long time to watch them and I wonder would it be faster going through the manual without the lectures. The lecture takes 2 hours and then you have to go through the manual after anyway.

I'm a bit :( about the whole thing at the moment. I don't see why people outside of Dublin should pay the exact same when we are getting less. I got a text message from them today about a change of location for the Limerick lectures so people there don't have access to any college facilities at all as far as I know.

Just thought of something else, the discussion forum within Moodle which they like to advertise, it doesn't seem to get more than 1 or 2 posts a week. They really are making easy money out of us.

Anyone else got any opinions on them?

I did Independent and they were great - granted I did it in Dublin but they run their DVD series in regional locations and charge a lot less because you are not privy to live lectures and do not have the opportunity to ask questions.

I would write to Griffith if it was me and complain. What is the worst that could happen. You may even get a discount or better services.

    Maybe try Indo next time?

when was this? they most certainly do not charge less for the regional courses now. But yeah can't say anything bad about the course and how it's run :)

Does the independent course cost the same or approx the same as Griffith?
I'm only on my first 4 subjects so will be needing to do the others.

What I do like about Griffith is the online dvd's. It's good if you miss a class or if like me you can't keep up it's handy being able to pause/rewind/replay.

The actual lectures I'm happy with but the place is so unfriendly and the facilities are lacking big time on what people in Dublin get. Less facilities should mean lower cost.
