    2005: Inside the Lions Den
The Aussie tour DVD from 2001. One disc is made up of highlights of all the games incl. midweek and the other is a behind-the-scenes look at the tour which is over 3hrs long.
Best Lions tour in my opinion. I don't follow the Lions or anything. Actually couldn't care less if they won or not but I do enjoy watching the tour games.

Without doubt 1997 - Living with the Lions. If only for Jim Telfer's speech before the 1st Test. Also some gems in it like all the players awkwardly singing Wonderwall in that bar after one of the games.

The 1997 tour had a unique dynamic. All of the players had some from the amateur era so, in that respect, the tour had some (or the cameras were allowed to show) of the traditional after-match craic.

I doubt that the 2005 tour with SCW was comparable.

The best bit, for me, from the 2005 DVD was DOC in the travel agents looking to get a flight home.

The 2001 Tour DVD is interesting from a couple of Irish points of view; Ronan o'Gara getting the sh*te kicked out of him for one, a young(ish) BoD showing the kind of skill and speed that scared most opposing sides back then as well as a very tearful Donal Lenihan right at the end after the lions had been beaten in the final test (in his role as Tour Manager).

They had Inside The Lions Den for sale in the 2 euro shop in Donegal Town a couple of months ago. Just shows how poor a tour it was.

just a quick heads-up (I know most folk on here will have seen this) but the Living with Lions DVD is set to be re-released, in a two disk collectors format. No idea what extras etc...it will contain, but may be worth a look.

This tool actually said on newstalk the other week that we were unlucky that no Afrikaners were in charge of the Boks because they are not as inteligent as those with British heritage.

After they apologised for the outburst someone then Texted in that Peter DeVilliers first language was afrikaans and he was born in Paarl, the home of Afrikaners.

Tonight @ 7.35 on ESPN there is a documentary called 'The Invincibles'. Its billed as a look at the infamous 1974 tour to South Africa. The lions won 21 out of 22 games on the tour, drawing the 22nd. Interviews with Ian McGeechan and captain Willie John McBride and a selection of their teammates.
This should definately be worth a watch.

The bit in the gym is hilarious, not something you'd get away with puting on a dvd these days, filming a hotties ass on a threadmill and then "here's one for the forwards" cue fat chicks ass.

If you like a a great rugby vid, could I also recommend League of Their own which follows the GB RL team on their 2005 tri-nations campaign. Its a fantastic rugby vid in its own right and I guarantee you will never look at Brian Carney in the same light again...!!!

I think 1997 is definately the best but even though it's not in the poll, 1993 (The Pride and the Passion) is also quite good. 2-1 loss to NZ but the team was good and competitive and played some great stuff. Only 2 Irish tourists which eventually became 4. (Popplewell, Galwey, Wallace, Cunningham).

I watched the 1974 Lions - Invincibles on SKY Sports last night. It programme ended just after the first test. I have tried, without success, to see when the next programme (if any) is on. The same programme is on many times over the next two weeks, but the description doesn't say if it's a repeat of last nights, or the following programme.

    Anyone here know ?

Was on this morning. The excuses for travelling there in the first place were prety nauseating. When it comes to apartheid Sth Africa, this sport has a fairly shameful history given those unions and Lions who toured there regardless of what was going on.

I'd agree with you 100% here. New Zealand used to ignore it too but eventually bowed to pressure to pull out as Maori's weren't welcome in SA. They finally returned when SA agreed to accept four Maori's on the New Zealand tour as "honourary whites". Downright sickening.

In regards to 1974, I get irritated by Willie John McBride and Gareth Edwards' constant and incessant rambling of the 'bond' between the Lions and though they haven't seen each other for 106 years, one look into each others eyes across a crowded room brings it all back. It's cliche after cliche and these guys love the sound of their own voices, reminiscing about the good ol' days.

Watched the last part last night. More of the same insulting tripe about 'denting' Apartheid etc
Ireland, England, France all sent teams there too without any punitive measures taken against them on their return. Shameful.

Yeah, it must be very rare because I've just googled it and there's no sign of it at all. Was really interesting, nowhere near as detailed as Living with the Lions but showed them doing all their off-field activities and had some great action from the games........Actually mid-post I've just googled again and here it is!

    http://www.amazon.co.uk/Pride-Passion-Official-Highlights-British/dp/B00004CO0I

EDIT: Bits are starting to come back to me now and I think theres a fair bit of footage from both sides so it's likely a NZ produced doc. Had to search Google NZ.

    Hey Folks,

ESPN classics channel are showing replays of living with lions and other old lions tours. ESPN classics has to be the best sporting channel for all the old rugby and boxing shows.
    Cheers
