    Hi!
I was wondering if anybody could give me some information about holidaying in crete? its for 2 people, both in our early 20's and we are looking for the cheapest we can get. We are interested in sight seeing and sporty activities. Is it good for activities such as hiking and cycling? If so, are these areas accesible with public transport as we cannot hire a car. I would be grateful for any information! thanks, fiona :)

Hi!, Fiona. Assuming that you are travelling from Ireland, the cheapest option would probably be a package holiday, in which case, you will find yourself in Gouves/Herssonisos/Piskopiano/Stalis(my preference would be Stalis). KTEL is the local bus company, and are cheap to travel with. Bicycles can be rented locally, and the coastal road is mostly flat and easy to cycle. The Lasithi plateau is up in the mountains, behind the resorts, and is used as a base for hiking in the mountains. I've hiked up to the archaeological site at Karfi, with a daysack, and wearing trainers. :)

    +1 for Stalis

Close to Knossos, loved the place but we went near end of season to avoid the tourist thingy

    The Lasithi plateau is beautiful

and nice trek up to Zeus' Cave too

I think there are some water sports too , but only spent one day at the sea .

public transport is pretty good, very cheap

If I could I'd buy a place there

    enjoy

    Hi Folks,

Myself and my brother in our late 20s are thinking of going to Crete for a holiday in the First week in August. We are both sporty type (not really into the nightlife scene, suprisingly we dont drink) and our budget for hotel accomodation and flights would be around 1000 euro excluding spending money. We would like to stay in a quiet resort and good hotel on a B&B basis. Any suggestions as to where to stay on the Island and a recommended hotel. As I said we would not be ones for lying around the pool all day.
