I just got a refurbished dell laptop from ebay.. everything is working perfectly and its got xp on it :pac: I signed up for the windwows 7 beta.. I want to try it on the laptop and not the desktop.. Is there a (free) program that will backup all my drivers now and when I reinstall xp it will let me install back all the same drivers?

I know I could go on the dell site and download the drivers and put them on a disc but id rather do it this way for peace of mind.

Ive googled but found alot of programs id rather not go through.. Someone on here is bound to know something good!

    Thanks

No. Make a list of all the hardware that is installed now to make your life easier should you roll back to XP. Consider downloading the network card drivers and having them ready.

You really would be as well just to go to the Dell site if you choose to reinstall XP again (which you won't, Win7 is amazing). Drivers are constantly being updated, and it would make sense to grab all those updates at once if you're going to be reinstalling drivers anyway.

Try out driver max. It's a very handy piece of software.

I use Driver Genuis find it the handiest, copies all device drivers into individual named folders.

Comes with a free trial that allows full use of the backup feature.

I would agree that it is a good idea to check Dells site periodically or at least every time you reinstall windows. I like to go grab all the drivers first and save them to a usb stick, then go ahead and do the install. This saves a lot of time on the reinstall.

I wouldn't recommend using a third party site, unless you can't find the drivers elsewhere, because of both security and quality concerns.
