The winter sun sat on the horizon in a pale orange hue. The winds swept the plains clean of the winter sleet, the few bare trees bowing at its passing. Huddle in a small hollow on the plains, a brown hut coughed a weak plume of white smoke into the sky. Its walls a mixture of wet clay and dark brown logs. Around the hut was a broken down fence, its beams cracked and split from the harsh frosts that had settled on Tharsen. The door hung limp on the hinges, rattling with each breath the plains took.
A fire burned in the grey stone hearth. Squatting next to it was a dark cloaked shadow. Pale hands stretching towards the flames soaking up the small amount of heat coming from them. Lying on the ground beside the shadow was a silver sword, its blade sparkled inf the dancing flame as its scabbard lay at the edge of the fire, slowly burning with the crumbling black logs.
