Anyone used iLife 09 yet? Good, bad? I reckon the face recognition (if it works) and maps stuff might have sold it to me!

Yeah the faces thing is quite good. Interesting to see how well it works. Seems the more faces that you confirm the name, the more it recognises. Haven't really tried the maps thing but it obviously relies on the gps info being part of the picture, unless you enter the location manually in iPhoto. (are there really many cameras that have gps units in them nowadays?)

There is more and more coming in. At the start they were in the really expensive SLRs but its beginning to be a feature in less expensive cameras bit by bit.

My iLife '09 has just shipped so I should have it before Tuesday. I'm really looking forward to the iMovie updates.

Just got iLife '09 installed this morning and I have to say, I love it. I think the iWeb updates allowing ftp publishing is handy, for the odd very simple website I frequently put together. Garageband, which I also use a lot has a nice interface update, so it looks nicer.

iPhoto is the big bonus though. The faces technology I think is just brilliant. Being able to view photos based on who is in them is great. I'm having a lot of enjoyment tagging everyone in fact. Bringing back a lot of memories.

I don't like the facebook interface though. I preferred the old export to facebook function to be able to export to already existing albums.

iMovie, haven't touched it, but looks good from the promotional videos.

Should hopefully be getting my copy next week sometime. Really looking forward to playing around in iPhoto. Should be interesting to find out how long it takes to process all my photos in relation to faces. iMovie looks good from the apple tutorials online etc but I'm still holding on to iMovie HD just in case.

i have about 3500 photos and it went through them all in about 45-50 mins on a 2ghz white macbook... not too bad i suppose.

Faces is brilliant, at the start it takes a while confirming who's who but once you have a good example base it picks up most of the others pretty well. Places is cool as well, i have the iphone so thats how my pics get geotagged.. im in the process of adding it to all my regular non-gps'd photos. i have an event called "san francisco" taken on my non-gps camera and it tagged all those photos based on the album name which i thought was excellent!

Its grand but not great. The Faces app in iPhoto is ok. It gets better the more you use it. Not much difference to iWeb or iMovie and little else done with Grage band bar the tutorials. All in all I think this was a weak realase from Apple who have been cuting back on software and focusing to much on Hardware as of late.

PS I wouls wait till your buying a new mac and save your 79 dollars.

You can get a GPS add on for new Nikons.

I am using iphoto with "faces"and i was amazed to notice in screen saver mode random photos of faces of all my family and friends taken of course from my main photo folder.Even a series of group wedding shots it chooses a random face to use.Landscape photos of course are not affected. Its very cool to see these people up close.
    system prefs.>desktop &screen saver>screensaver>display style>collage(middle button). enjoy. :)

I really like the new Places functionality in iPhoto'09. Since a bought a new DSLR last year, buying another one with GPS functionality is not an option for me.
But my iPhone 3G has a GPS module, so I looked for an app that turns my iPhone into a GPS logger and I found one! It's called GeoLogTagand I really like it. It's very easy to use (just one on/off switch). I use GeoLogTag in combination with HoudahGeo on my Mac to do the geotagging.

Well i have had iLife 09 for the past week now and i have to say that i really like it. The new iMovie may not be perfect for people that need something powerful or whatever, but my video editing skills are very basic but even still i can play around with the transitions etc in 09.

I really like iPhoto too and have spent a good bit of time editing info and 'helping' faces with faces and i really like it too. Places is handy, but i think most people dont need a computer to tell them where they took a photo.

Overall, i would recommend the upgrade if your not buying a mac soon.

A strange thing happened to me when using the previous version of iPhoto on my mac the other day. When I opened it, a pop up window advertising iPhoto 09 appeared! It never happened again or with any other iLife apps!
